Glad to see this thread revived.
In the past 6 weeks I have sold 7 domains in the $199-$688 range (which is the best range for me). Not a single one shows up on Namebio or any other list.
So yeah, the reported sales are a tiny fraction of actual sales.
...I'm reading every DN blog that reports sales from different venues for a long time.
Retail I would say very low, maybe even fractions of a percent. Wholesale I would imagine we probably get a majority of sales. There's no way to be sure how much there is of something that isn't reported though.
That said, for retail comps you don't really need completeness, as it isn't a very liquid market and retail sales have little predictive value. As long as you can find a few good comps for any domain you're negotiating on I think you're good. We do have tens of thousands of retail sales, maybe even a six-figure number.
Wholesale is where I think completeness becomes more important.
So when I see on Namebio.com that there are 2000 total sales containing my keyword, then in the reality it could be as high as 200 000 or even as high as 1 000 000 ?
And what about the "average price" reported by Namebio, how accurate is that?
