Annoying Escrow.com concierge upsell

I have done nearly 100 transactions on escrow.com. In general I am a fan of escrow.com and I like the service. I have a couple more in the works and I noticed escrow.com started emailing buyers trying to upsell "escrow.com concierge service" to squeeze a few extra bucks from the buyer (see below).

This is not the way to do it. Sending an email from "[email protected]" right after the buyer signs up saying "you might want to take advantage of our Concierge service" is super scary and makes the seller (me) look like a creep!

Buyers are usually new to the domain business and justifiably nervous. It's hard enough explaining registrars, escrow, transfer, etc and now I have to field questions about this greedy escrow.com upsell email as well. It creates confusion, slows down the transaction, and will ultimately result in lost sales.

We appreciate your interest in using our service in securing your transaction. After reviewing your transaction XXXXXXX, you might want to take advantage of our Concierge service.

Our Domain Concierge Service will hold the domain securely in Escrow.com's registrar account throughout the transaction and ensure safe delivery to the Buyer. Our hands on Concierge Specialists will manage the receipt of both the funds and the domain into Escrow.com's secure accounts, check the domain against the purchase agreement, complete the transfer to the buyer for security at every stage in the transaction and answer any question you may have regarding the process.

I strongly recommend the Concierge Service. Concierge fee is an additional $$$$$ and I can add this to your transaction now.

Thanks for letting us know about this. We've sent you a DM. Kindly check.

Same here. After agreeing to transaction terms, received above-mentioned email from support@escrow. It's very poor experience, even I was afraid that something with wire went wrong or so. Will probably avoid Escrow.com next time.

What's the best Escrow.com alternative btw?

I agree, it's different. It's off putting to a buyer to receive a random message saying "After reviewing your transaction you might want to take advantage of our concierge service". That makes buyers understandably suspicious and makes me look like a creep.

As a followup, I will say that I was contacted by escrow.com support and they added a note to my account to prevent these upsells in the future.

Hey guys! Thanks for all your feedback. (shoutout to @gurgeous for communicating this with us also via DM)

We've actually recently updated our Start Transaction flow so your suggestions about making the concierge service (or other additional services relevant to your transactions) should be more visible upon creation of the transaction. We welcome your suggestions and feel free to reach out to [email protected] or send us a direct message here for anything else. Have a great day!
