Uni Naming & Registry (UNR) is thrilled to be joining the Namepros community! With all of the big changes at our registry this year, we wanted to open a direct line of communication between our team and the community.

Below is our first update for everyone, with more news to come:

• UNR becomes a pure-player registry operator and backend services provider following the sale of its registrar, Uniregistry.com, to GoDaddy in April 2020. Read the press release.
• Shayan Rostam joins as Chief Growth Officer to increase sales & adoption of UNR’s domain endings. He is best known for launching and popularizing .XYZ as their Global Director of Registry Operations, as well as masterminding .INC’s Member Benefits program as their Chief Registry Officer.
• Raedene McGary joins as COO to expand UNR’s backend business. With 20 years of industry experience, Raedene was previously the Group Policy Director of CentralNic, CEO of .LA, and consulted for a number of registries and government ministries.

Uniregistry Marketplace (ie DomainNameSales) and Uniregistry.com (the registrar) were both acquired by GoDaddy earlier this year, so the availability of the members of those teams would be questions for Uniregistry.com or GoDaddy. Our registry is undergoing a rebrand to UNR as a way to differentiate ourselves from the registrar and marketplace. Frank is still the CEO of UNR, and he may choose to post from time to time under his own NamePros account.

How is this their compartment?

Leave Uni alone; They didnt choose to be acquired for $196.9 million by Godaddy.
($196.9 million, of which $149.1 million paid in cash and rest $47.8 million paid upon approval)

howdy... I meant to ask .what was that either real poorly worded or just a bad idea if true email u sent to yer clients few months back that basically said about new policy to renew all names before expiry or they may be gone...

if true then isn't it against icann rules to not leave a chunk of time to people after expiry

We have no control over what GoDaddy does, obviously. But it's worth pointing out that UNR is one of the few registry operators that remains fully independent - and that's something we take a lot of pride in.

Thanks! Just to clarify, UNR is not a subsidiary of GoDaddy. Our registry remains fully independent.

GoDaddy acquired the following business units earlier this year:
- Uniregistry.com (registrar)
- Uni Marketplace (aftermarket sales)
- Brandsight (now GoDaddy Corporate Domains).

We have no plans to raise prices. In fact, we are working closely with registrars on longterm commitments that will give customers pricing far below our wholesale costs.

Hey Ty - I'm not sure which email you're referring to, but my guess is that it was from Uniregistry.com (the registrar), not UNR.

Think of UNR, the registry operator, as the wholesaler of the domains. Like any other wholesaler, we do not have the contact info (other than what is publicly available in the WHOIS), account credentials, payment details, etc of the registrants. That means it's not really possible for us to contact registrants directly.

The registrar (eg Namecheap) is the retailer that interfaces with the customer. This is who you would normally receive emails from.

No we're not concerned. Consolidation has long been anticipated. We've already been active in buying and selling a number of gTLDs (as well as selling several business units), and we continue to look for opportunities that will support our growth as an independent operator.

Why your brokers not responsive? What is the point in collecting brokerage when your brokers can't respond to sellers within a stipulated time? I sold a domain via Uni on 26th Jan 2021. There is no detail on where the funds are?

As the wholesale registry operator, we do not have any brokers. They all moved over to GoDaddy as part of the acquisition of Uniregistry Marketplace (ie DomainNameSales) and Uniregistry.com (the registrar) in April 2020. You'll need to reach out to one of those companies directly for assistance.

UNR announced on January 27 that it will be holding a one-day auction event for ownership rights to 23 Top Level Domains it operates. The event will consist of separate no-reserve auctions for each of the 23 assets, giving bidders the flexibility to only acquire the Top Level Domains that fit their strategies or budgets.
