.EU registration changes and Brexit
Due to the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union, the European Commission has decided how .EU domains will be managed for UK residents. Based on the European Commission's decision, effective immediately, GoDaddy will stop selling .EU domain names to customers with a UK registrant contact on their domain name. As Brexit negotiations continue, we will be learning more details about how these changes will affect you.
Note: Due to ongoing uncertainties over the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union, EURid has placed on hold any plan regarding domain names registered to individuals and undertakings located in the United Kingdom and Gibraltar. All dates are subject to change at any time, and we will continue to provide information as we receive it. You can follow updates on EURid's official update page. Thank you for your patience.
Once negotiations are complete and dates are determined, any currently registered .EU domain name with an existing .UK registrant contact address will be deactivated. The domain name will remain in your account until a future date subject to ongoing negotiations, or the domain expiration date. Upon reaching the expiration date or that future date, the domain will be removed from your account. Prior to this deadline, you can reactivate your domain name by updating your domain registrant contact information to a valid European Union address that is not in the UK. Dates are subject to change, as Brexit negotiations are currently ongoing.
What are my options?
- If you have a valid address in the European Union that is not in the UK — you can update your domain registrant contact to keep the domain valid. Please note that you must use a valid registrant contact address according to valid ICANN guidelines.
- If you do not have a valid address — at a future date subject to ongoing negotiations, your domain name will be deactivated and removed from your account. You can register a different domain name, such as .UK and .CO.UKdomains.

GoDaddy will be sending out more communication to our customers in the UK as this process unfolds. This article will also be updated periodically as new information comes to light during the ongoing negotiations between the United Kingdom and European Union, including information about dates, refund eligibility and more. It is still early in the process as we work with the registry, so check back for more information.
