question Beginning of the end for "Urban" as a keyword?

Found this quite an interesting story today on the BBC

Drake and Ariana Grande's record label drops the term 'urban'

"Republic Records, one of the most powerful record labels in the US, will stop using the word "urban" to describe music of black origin.

The company, which is home to Drake and Ariana Grande, says it will no longer use the term to describe "departments, employee titles and music genres".

"We encourage the rest of the music industry to follow suit," it added.

The term is often considered to be a generalisation that marginalises music by black artists."

The keyword has some decent sales history according to Namebio, with over 30 sales this year and 507 in total.

The biggest reported sale was for $25,000 back in 2017 for UrbanLegends.com

Will be interesting to see if this has an impact outside of the music industry for this keyword.....

Personally, I think music has been over categorized for a long time. This is a good move and should apply across other genres too.

One famous mis-categorization that I remember was when one of my favourite bands - Jethro Tull - won the Heavy Metal award. Seriously?

I've got to bolt out the door again but I'm not too worried about the 'urban' thing. Two of my last twenty domain investments started with the word 'urban'...if anything I will raise the asking prices when I get back later.

I never actually realised that 'urban' was used in this context until I read this thread.

I live in Australia, so perhaps this is an American thing?

Perhaps it will be dropped in the context OP suggests, but I will still keep using the word 'urban' the same way I use the word 'suburban' and 'rural' to describe areas of living-space.

@wwwulff Just wondering - with record, cassette-tape, reel-to-reel, 4-track & 8-track, even compact disc, all being outdated music-industry terms now - is there much interest for it?

I could imagine using it as a sort of diary of life in an urban environment. In fact, that would have been my first assumption, or listing the top property sales in urban areas.
