Yeah, this was a while back. Even more recent "fraudsters" being sued by Google. Idiots.

The sad thing..

The sad thing is that Google still hasn't beaten the problem, meaning less CPC for our sites as advertisers realize they are paying a heavy premium for advertising on "content" sites.

What's more, he wasn't arrested for making the program (Lest we all get the wrong idea...), it was the extortion/blackmail that got him in trouble.

Of course, there are enough charges to go around, most won't end up sticking (Aside from K.M., computer charges are hard to make stick, but when they finally can, they do throw the book trying to make it into an "example" case: Hello RIAA!)

Basically, on adwords I get over a 6 time better conversion ratio coming from search clicks instead of content clicks... could not be more unfortunate.

When Google beats this (IF they beat this) they'll let us know, I'm sure, and then I'll give content another go.

Michael Bradley was really dumb to threaten Google, and to think he would get money for it. Instead he should've told Google about it so Google could've done something about it and in return he would've gotten a reward or a job but look where he is now.. well, he really deserved it!

Hadn't looked at it that way... he probably could have gotten a job as a security/loss prevention specialist with them...

Good call HellFear.

Well... you don't "beat" problems like this. You can't "beat" fraud, same as you can't "win" the war on terrorism. There will ALWAYS be those willing to try. Of course... that doesn't mean they get away with it.

I wonder how many other Michael Bradley's there are in the world. It is estimated by Clicklab that over 50% of all PPC clicks are fraud D-:

Reminds me of the spam growth ratio, from 10% in the early days of all Internet email traffic to over 60% today.

We can do 2 thimgs, close our eyes and wish these things away, or, be aware and implement the necessary steps/processes/technology to ensure advertiser value is protected as best we can.
