Hotel Booking Site

Hi guys,
how does Booking etc get their % fee from small hotels ? I've noticed, smaller players having a hotel directory /booking site. Is there a standard to integrate with an existing system? How it's done...other than submitting the booking amount, minus commissions.

any suggestions would be great
