Hi just wondering how everyone goes about creating their web pages.

What steps do you take?

Do you have a certain way of doing things like developing graphics and then coding the page from there or getting all the content ready and coding the page or???

Okay you get the idea so how do you go about creating a web page? :D

I do the bulk of my work in this order, but its not like once i get to content i'll stop doing graphics all together, if theres something that fits in then i'll whip it up.

Graphics - To get the general idea of what the page will look like.
HTML Coding - I cut up the graphics here and put them into a page. This is when i try to minimize load time the most by, for example, cutting a 3x500 line graphic into a 3x1 graphic and stretching it, or if it has special ends then cut the middle out stretch it and put the ends on as seperate graphics.
Content - I put whatever needs to be in the page there, this makes the page look alot like its going to be when its complete, and by this time it usually is complete.
CSS/PHP Coding - If anything can be done in CSS to eliminate any graphics or just to make things look better then i'll do it here. Also if php is needed then i'll work on it now.
Fine tuning - Just look over the website, make sure everything is fine, and if it isnt then i'll make it fine.

Sometimes this isn't how i do things, but for my own websites it is. Right now i'm working on a website for a computer reseller in the UK, i'm working on it with 2 other people so i got to jump right into the html side of things for the tables and layout of the products, and next i'll probibly work on graphics, then php, then content. But yes, for my own work this is how things are done.

normally i just get inspiration to do things. there is no particular way i go about doing it. most of the graphics i use on layouts were just doodling graphics that got converted over into a layout format. its very seldom that i make a graphic for a particular layout and if i do end up doing that it means im getting paid for the job. :)

i start the process by coding then applying the graphics so it is uniformed. sometimes it is the opposite. i tend to have plenty of dr. pepper and cigarettes in stock as well because i need them to stay sane while doing a page. :P

Hmmmm I usually start simple and get the basic layout down with all the tables which takes me forever. :) Then once I have the basic idea I add some css to change the appearance and experiment with some graphics and altering the css and making adjustments to the layout.

I usually always start with one table that will surround all the other tables similar to:
table align="center" border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="600">
<tr>
<td width="100%">

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"
width="100%">
<tr>
<td>
Content Here
and many more tables
and more content .
more tables etc.... As you can see I'm no professional, but that way works for me. :D

Usually I design the layout first and slice all the images in Photoshop. Once that's done, I create a new HTML document (with the basic tags setup) and setup my site's aesthetic on a template page (if needed).

Depending on what type of technology i'm using, I usually move into creating the database structure and PHP coding (always database first). In my process, content always comes second to last, or it is sometime entered through a Content Management System I provide for my clients.

Last, but not least, I must test, tweak, and review the site along with the likes of my client (sometimes the client may bug me first, he he).

I'm not a good planner or organizer. When i actually get around to making a webpage these are the steps i take..

1. A quick drive down to the local conveinance store. I will come out of said conveinance store with a couple packs of ciggarettes, a 2 liter of soda, and whatever they get me to buy on impulse.

2. I then spend the next three to five hours(depending on web-writer's block) smoking, watching tv, smoking more, drinking soda, reading comics, etc..

3. The realization that I've accomplished nothing so far hits me. I smoke a few more ciggarettes and finish my soda.

4. On to the drawing board. This is mainly where i come up with the layout, thinking outside the box as it were.

5. After that it's straight to notepad. I try to stay away from photoshop as long as possible.

6. Much merriment and possible intoxication from alchohol. :D

Heh, well you've seen my Technical steps, heres my casual steps.

1. Someone ask's me to make a site, or my skills are hired.

2. I bug them and bug them for the proper information.

3. Once i get the info i run upto the supermarket and buy a few big bags of chips and atleast one 2L of beverage.

4. I come back home and move my television onto the computer desk.

5. I turn on something good and watch it while the information sits infront of me

6. When i get around to working on it i crack open a bag of chips and the coke.

7. I follow my technical steps while watching tv.

8. I upload it and ask them what they think.

*9. I yell at them for not liking it.

10. I stop for the night. At this point its probibly 5 or 6am.

*step 9 may vary

LOL, I don't do very extensive steps or anything.. basically I first create the main image, do the css/html coding. And if any other dynamic language coding is needed, then I'll do that. Before everything is completed, I do a last check and make sure everything is all right and then have my webpage open.

Here Is my dream process

1) a client contact me in need of a website and he do not know any were else to get it.

2) I go home find all ready made layout (from before) and show it to him

3) her loves the layout

4) I slice and code a homepageand a secondary page.

5) The clients love the site whit the meny rollovers, dropdowns ore what ever I felt for

6) I now install his site to his server whit my own CMS

7) I show the client how to fill in his content

8) The client pays me a well earned bunch

9) I go home and wait for the next client that needs a website

Sure, go ahead. I'm sure you'll find it'll pay you back greatly with the karma boost it gives you, not to mention the money you get from empties as they build up from weeks and weeks of webdesign.

steps? like a plan and process of what you do to make a site?

Well lets see if my process were to be recorded it would prolly look something like this.

1. Stop playing Tribes 2 and get to website making type stuff.
2. Grab drinks, snacks and whatever will feed me throughout the time I coding.
3. Take a real quick break and surf for some good porn.
4. ummm we'll skip this step cause no one needs to know :P
5. Open up all my tools and get ready to work.
6. Stare and screen for awhile and wonder..."ok what do i do now?"
7. Grab pen and paper and ruler, draw a quick structured layout no fancy graphics just a structure in tables.
8. Create structure design in image editor using basic square, rectangle shapes.
9. Code structure in HTML editor, mainly focusing on colors and size.
10. Take break and surf for more porn. :) , snack on something too.
11. Fight the urge to repeat step 4.
20. perform miracle thus completing website.

oh if your wondering what happen to steps 15 thru to 19 I was busy performing miracle.
