If you're completely set on investing some time into the domain then just do it

Honestly.. you've paid the reg fee already so you might as well at least try to get some cash out of it. Sure, you might not get $xxx,xxx
for it but that doesn't mean that its a loss. It would take you 30 min or less to either set up a Wordpress blog with some basic info (add adsense for CPC) or just use any vacation related affiliate offer. Booking.com pays an average of $15 per paid reservation and its pretty easy to get in with an affiliate program that has their offers included.

Worst case scenario you can just forward the domain to the affiliate offer and hope that you will receive one sale throughout the year (doubling your investment)

In a commercial market place of any kind, there is a huge difference between "positive" and "realistic". "Positive" is purely hopeful, and hopeful never set up any decent business or made a great sale. "Realistic" on the other hand is studying the market trends, looking at sales in general, and not just looking at sales similar to your domain and building up a case why you believe (hope) yours is worth money too. there are so many parameters in a domain name value, and "similar" is a word you should avoid using (for now).

You might sell your domain name tomorrow for $5,000, you might never sell it, you might sell it in a year for that, or $50, or $50,000. The market can be volatile and bizarre, especially with "quirky" names such as yours, but it's very important to understand that in general the market is fairly obvious!

For example, if you owned "VacationRental.com" everyone here would be telling you it's worth a lot of money, as it's clear. With incorrectly spelled names you not only have to find an end user within that domain's niche, but also a very specific one who is ok with a misspelling. so your market potential is very, very low. This alone does not mean a domain is not worth a lot, but without premium keywords it does (or without real words etc).

Typos are something incorrectly spelt but are typed a lot anyway, misspellings are just wrongly spelled and not typed much and so of no value.

"Mortage" is a very common typo, so people search and put it in their URL bar all the time, this makes it valuable. That is the same for any typo which is misspelled a lot and is a premium keyword!

fidlesticks.com ( a misspelling with only one "d") is worthless as no one types it, and "Fiddlesticks" is not premium like "mortgage" is.

all that blah blah but skirted around the FACT that a company not a TINY at that CHOSE keep registering Vacatoin.com I mean I know it's cheap to reg and it's peanuts to them but why bother if as you all say it's crap? just like you guys are all telling me I should just forget it my domain is crap. yet here we have a perfect example of a company benefiting from a "typo" domain. Can someone explain that since this person obvious wanted to just dance around that FACT? hmmmm he wanted to DANCE around it because he's just to want poo poo on the newbie. ummm It's been UNDERSTOOD even since the beginning that I made a mistake on this domain as per the plenty of advice on here.

It's almost like SOMEONE got offended when I simply mentioned the FACT the a company has owned and benefiting from Vacatoin.com a TYPO domain. which leads to the next logical assumption and yes I said assumption that perhaps there's someone else out there who might see the value of say VacatoinRental.com especially if they can see that someone is "benefiting" from owning and using Vacatoin.com?

VacatoinRental.com was owned by Netcorp, Net. since 2006 and expired in 2009
I will also say that vacatoinrentals.com was reg prior to that on 2004.

so for 3 years vacatoinrental.com was owned by netcorp. why they didn't get shutdown with a urdp complaint makes one wonder. I don't know the answer maybe someone else does.

for whatever reason I don't know they let it go fine. and probably because it wasn't worth it to them. or poor management. we can't ever really know unless we ask them and I probably will. most likely they were sent a URDP complaint. yet I don't see a trademark for Vacatoin Rental. although Vacation Rentals trademark would cover misspellings. Can anyone comment?

So that's all I can go by. Don't know why vacation rentals didn't snatch this one up for the heck of it. maybe they felt all they needed was just VacatoinRentals.com or felt their trademark protected them.

or maybe netcorp tried to sell them the domain with no interest. who knows?

ehhh either way Cheapdomains.com has my $9.17 so might as well make use of it.

oh by the way? is there a way to figure out which version of misspellings happen most often? like you've just said that Mortage is a common misspelling. how does everyone come to that conclusion? I'm guessing someone will tell me to look thru Google's Adwords PPC statistics?

Jesus all that for 8$. Just move on and forget that domain, it's worth 0, will bring maybe 2-3 visitors per month if you're lucky, and you won't make 1$ with wordpress theme and generated content! What kind of ads you gonna put on that? Adsense doesnt want those kind of shitty useless websites, you might just end Adsense banned. You're just gonna lose more time. Learn and move on it's just 8$. Don't stay positive with that shit domain, it's gonna make you lose even more time, it's shit, move on. Trust me I run a website for a living and it takes a lot of traffic to make $. Grace delete if you still can or go ahead, stay positive and lose even more.
