The Chinese domain name market has been relatively quiet recently. With little to get excited about, the focus of many investors has largely moved back to traditional domaining territories of keywords and brandable names. However, are there signs of movement within China's domain investment community? Here's the reason why I think so.
Privately, I've been aware of a number of large transactions involving various categories of domains, such as three number .COMs, three letter .COMs and more, Also, this week, I've received more requests from Chinese contacts for four-number and three-letter .COM domains than ever before.
This is anecdotal evidence, but I think that there are many investors starting to buy up portfolios in private - whether this signifies an upturn in prices soon is another matter.
Here's this week's top topics.
What Is Your Favorite New gTLD?
Many domain investors will be aware of the amount of new gTLDs that are available for registration now. According to ntldstats.com, there are over 22.8mm domains registered in new extensions, with .XYZ taking a 28% share of all new gTLD registrations.
With the majority of new gTLDs being owned by domainers, one investor has asked for opinions on the favorite new gTLD. Extensions mentioned include .XYZ and .CLUB, whilst others are waiting for the general release of .MEDIA.

What Will The Next Domain Trend Be?
Following trends as a domain investor can be extremely profitable, if you get in early enough. Virtual reality, augmented reality and short names are just three examples of recent trends that investors have profited from. There will always be another trend, so what will the next one be?
This is the question being asked in this discussion. Health and IOT (Internet Of Things) related names seem to be popular responses, but there are many more opinions to be found within the conversation, linked to above.

Keep It or Drop It?
Deciding whether to renew a domain name or let it expire can be a difficult decision. Are you wasting money by renewing it? Are you losing a potential sale by letting it expire? Sometimes, you just need another opinion to help you make up your mind.
This is exactly why this discussion has been created. If you have a domain that you don't know what to do with come renewal time, then ask the community in this conversation. Another perspective can often help you make the right decision.

How Do You Get End-Users to Make an Offer?
If you conduct outbound sales, then you'll know that getting the end-user to make an offer can be hard work. This week, one investor has asked for advice on this very subject. @Michael Sumner from NameBio had some excellent advice for this investor, that can be seen by reading the discussion.
Should you state your price in your initial email? Should you prompt the end-user to make an offer? How do you go about conducting outbound sales?
