Where was I? I had all my .com domains at Parked and everything else at Bodis. Back in February I was waxing lyrical about Parked being back on top of their game. I had 2 months where I received almost record payouts (of all time... maybe in 3-4 years of parking). Then everything fell off a cliff and I was getting approx 2/3rds less. On 7th July I received only about $6.50 in revenue, which was abysmal. The day before that I had decided to try Above.com.

What is Above.com? In short, it's a traffic forwarder to your Parking Accounts. It decides where to send the traffic for each domain based upon which parking service gives the best returns. This sounds great. No longer do you need to park a group of domains with company A for a couple of months, enter the results into a spreadsheet, then park them at company B for a couple of months, enter the results in a spreadsheet. And so on. Now all this is done in Real Time, by Above.com.

Who are Above.com? They are part of the Trellian network of companies, who I first came across using their KeywordDisovery.com tool. So, I had confidence in them from the getgo.

It was easy to setup an account. You then go to Manage Accounts and setup the Parking Companies you wish to use from the list of companies they support. I chose Bodis, Parked, TrafficZ, DomainSponsor. The latter two I probably haven't used in a couple of years. You need to provide your username and password for each account. Of course there is a slight risk in this, but given the size of Trellian, I didn't have a real problem with this.

You can then go to Manage Folders and setup Folders for groups of domains. I however, imported everything into the default folder. Subsequently, I created two other folders, 1) Revenue, and 2) No Revenue. I moved everything from the default folder to No Revenue, and then moved them to Revenue, once Above.com reported revenue. You do this by downloading the .CSV file for the Non-Revenue domains, sort the SpreadSheet by Revenue, and then copy/past these into the Add Domains to the Revenue Folder. There is no copy/move command in Above.com. You either Add or Remove Domains, and Above.com moves the domains to the new Folder.

You of course have to add all your domains to each Parking Service individually (even if this can be done in bulk).

What is Maximizer? This is Above.com's inhouse Parking Service. They say that by some complex algorythms they monetize visitors which are poorly monetized by regular parking companies. For example, Asian traffic. When I look at the stats compared to the other parking companies (which is easy to do by clicking on Statistics and choosing what you want), I see mostly very low rates per click, like $0.02, significantly less than the rates/click for the same domain from the other parking companies. Who is to say that Above.com got it right or not? Maximizer provided about 1/5th of my Total Revenue for August. I've turned it off for Sept to see how the portfolio perform without it.

The Statistics are very comprehensive. You can select one or more parking services and a whole slew of stats like clicks, revenue, EPC etc.

How is support? I think there is only 1 support personnel. I usually get answers to my questions in about 1-3 days. So not the speediest support in the world, but I can't think of any support question which requires an immediate reply. So i'm reasonably satisfied.

How did I do? Well Above.com say it takes about 2 months to get your portfolio optimized. It's now been just two months for me. So maybe my best month will be Sept. But anyhow, in August, my 2nd month, Above.com managed to give me returns just below my record earnings of February. So, about 80-100% better than my earnings in June. This is a significant jump in earnings. It was split (in approx terms) 20% each from Bodis, Maximizer, DomainSponsor, and most of the rest from Parked. Almost nothing from TrafficZ, barely making the minimum payment for both July and August.

The website is sometimes a bit flakey. Not really surprising considering the amount of data they must be churning out. But usually it works itself out within a short time, usually minutes. My biggest gripe is that the Statistics Reports only allow you report 100 domains per page (whereas the Reports allow 1000). Also that there is no portfolio total reported in the Stats. You have to add up each page total.

Am I going to continue with Above.com? You betcha! I've disable the Maximizer to see how my portfolio performs without it and I'll probably disable TrafficZ also. I'd recommend to anyone to try Above.com. It really take away the drudgery of manually testing domains at different parking services.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Well all the numbers are not yet finalized but I had my best ever month using Above.com in November. Not beating my record August by much, but it was better. So I'll be keeping this combination of Bodis/Parked/DomainSponsor/Maximizer with all Yahoo Banned/Restricted domains not being sent to Parked. My split of Revenue was approx Bodis-30% Parked-30% DomainSponsor-25% Maximizer-15%. DomainSponsor came on very strong at the end of the month, otherwise I think I wouldn't have had my record month. Bodis continuing to impress.

The first half of December is an improvement on November. It looks like it's going to be my best month ever for parking. I'd certainly recommend using Above.com

Well December is over. There's just a bit of firming up the numbers to do. But anyhow I had my best month ever from parking in about the 4 years I've been parking domains. BEST MONTH EVER!. Yippee!

So, August, then November and now December, all best months ever since I started using Above.com in July 2010. This is definitely a good trend :)

OK. nothing is exactly comparable because I buy, sell, drop domains all the time. But it's still my BEST MONTH EVER!. Very good considering the depressed parking arena. But still not enough to pay for all the Renewal Fees :(

I now have a new clear leader in the revenue %. Bodis has been growing steadily as a proportion of total revenue monthly. They took 3 out the top 4 highest revenue domains, and 4 of the top ten.

My Revenues were split Bodis-35%, Parked-25%, DomainSponsor-20%, Maximizer-20%

I highly recommend using Above.com to push your domains to your best paying Parking companies

Hai folks,
i just joined above and added my portfolio. now, do i also need to ad the same portfolio to other parking companies i use in above? currently i use bodis and parked as my ads provider. so my question is, do i need to ad the same portfolio which i added to the above.com to this two companies also?

yes, any domains you add to above have to be added to the parking company and optimized. Above is simply a rotator to see which company does the best for each domain so the domains need to be added and optimized for each company you choose to add at above.

Results for January were only 80% of my record-breaking December numbers. To be expected. The share by provider were Bodis-40% Parked-25% DomainSponsor-20% Maximizer-15%. So Bodis consolidating it's share from my other providers.

Well I wasn't going to post until the end of the month, but the first half of February was just amazing. If it continues like this, I'm going to break my all time record from Dec 2010. I had one legal domain at DomainSponsor which provided me with a $29 click yesterday. That, and the fact it's a short month, are probably against me breaking my record though.

stub, thanks for your updates. I've been hesitant to setup an above.com account, i dislike sharing passwords across systems, but I am keeping a close eye on your experience. Thanks again!

Well. Matt from Bodis reckons that he cannot monetize url redirects as well as using nameservers. He won't go into details, but I would think it's marginal at best. I have had 3 best months ever (of all time) since I started using Above in July last year. That's pretty darn good for a depressed parking market. Bodis is now providing 40% of that revenue. So he's doing something right with the url redirects :) Parked has been a big disappointment since I started. Probably the Bing effect. I keep DomainSponsor on because it occasionally provides big clicks and it does monetize some domains better than the others. For me it's been a huge success, using Above.com.

The amazing thing

is that the lower producing parking companies {I would agree with the consensus of non producers programs already posted]allow the Above system to work with their parking program..When consumer reports rates televisions and a certain model gets a low rating the first thing the manufacturer does is discontinue the model [or change the model number].Using above has exposed blatant low production by certain companies .to empirical stats that are hard to explain when 100s of domains are tested .I expected to see 10-30% differences but 70-80% earnings discrepancies ???.If I was one of the companies playing that way ..I would not want to participate in this consumer reports of above's emotionless ratings game.If the moneys not there.its no good and Remodeling your site isn't going to change the facts.

I'm not clear about your point? Are you saying only the lower producing parking companies use Above, and the better producing companies stay away from Above.com? Or the other way around? Here is a list of supported companies..

BigJumbo
Bodis
DDC
DomainAdvertising
DomainSponsor
Dotzup
Fabulous
FirstLook
GoDaddy
Hitfarm
Hotkeys
NameDrive
Overdrive
Parked
SEDO
SiteBox
Skenzo
SmartName
Streamic
TrafficZ

I think this is a fairly representative bunch of poor and good producers.

for me seems to be good. The domain name is quite ok and the design the same: simple and modern in the same time.

I'm missing something

Hey stub - great ongoing reporting - very interesting read!

Something doesn't make sense to me. I cannot reconcile these statements you've made: "For me it's been a huge success, using Above.com" and earlier "BEST MONTH EVER!... But still not enough to pay for all the Renewal Fees". If you can't even cover the cost of leasing the names in your portfolio, aren't you just losing money? What am I missing?

I'm going to subscribe to this thread to receive future reports from the front lines heh.

Of course everyone would like to cover their renewal fees with parking revenue, but sadly for most, this isn't achievable due to the state of domain parking at this time.

However for me to have had 3 months where I exceeded my previous best months revenue (of all time) is testament that sharing revenue between the best parking companies, works. This is especially true with current poor state of domain parking.

Yes, I would be losing money if this was my only source of revenue. I make up the difference with domain sales.

OK. Another month over. I didn't post last month because there didn't seem anything significant to report. But in fact it turned out to be a reasonably good month. The first half was even better than my December record. But it dropped off in the second half.

March was just under 80% of my December record. so about the same as January, but worse than the short month of February. Bodis 40%, DomainSponsor 27% Parked 22% Maximizer 11%. So Parked is still dropping like a brick, leaving DomainSponsor as my 2nd largest provider. Bodis, aahh Bodis. Where would I be without you :)

---------- Post added at 09:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 AM ----------

My best Month so far had been Dec 2010 (understandably). as a % of Dec 2010 my other months revenue has been

June not a full month
July 79%
August 92% (3rd best month ever)
Sept 79%
Oct 79%
Nov 94% (2nd best month ever)
Dec 100% (best month ever)
Jan 80%
Feb 81%
Mar 78%

So for me, Dec runs about 25% above any other "normal" month.

April was my worst month ever since starting this thread at only 70% of my record December earnings. The percentages by parking company were Bodis 44%, Domain Sponsor 32%, Parked 16%, Maximizer 8%. This poor performance has nothing to do with Above.com and all to do with the poor performance of Parked.com (mostly) and Maximizer.

Parked.com just stank last month. Their lowest ever showing, and I see no end to their demise in sight. Domain Sponsor had a strong month which appears to be continuing into May. The growth in Bodis is due more to the poor performance of Parked and Maximizer rather than their own performance, with flat earnings between March and April.

Great thread

Hi Stub,

Great updates here on your experience with Above.com.

I'm new to this whole domain parking thing. I've just registered an account with Above.com. I have not yet registered with any parking companies. I was thinking of registering with all the ones supported by Above.com. But after reading your updates it sounds like that would be a bad idea.

So my question is should I set up accounts with the companies you're having success with i.e. Bodis, Domain Sponsor, Parked and Maximizer. Or should I not bother with Parked and Maximiser and just stick with the first two?

Or should I give others a try (like Sedo)?

Kind Regards,

iloveseo

Each domain performs better with some parking companies rather than others. It's a matter of trial and error. What I really dislike about Sedo is they only pay you for the first click. They keep the revenue of subsequent clicks for themselves. But still some people still like them. I can't tell if it's from ignorance or not. In my experience you shouldn't have more than 3 parking companies plus Above's own Maximizer. In my experience you will get sub-optimal returns if you have more. Maximizer supposedly gives you returns which which are higher than you might get from other companies. I think this is true, since I got higher total return with it turned on rather than when it was turned off.

Thanks Stub,

I'll give the ones you're using a go and see how it goes.

Are you sure it's specific to Sedo ?
I believe Bodis also stopped paying multiple clicks a long time ago, cause they have to keep advertisers happy.

I noticed the ads served by Bodis are Google ads. I'm wondering wouldn't it be more profitable to go via Google Adsense for Domains? Therefore cutting out the middleman?

No that wouldn't be us.

We've always paid for multiple clicks! B-)

I don't have any experience of any other parking company doing this than Sedo. Most do pay for multiple clicks. as cfguru360 confirms Bodis do. So do Parked. I think DomainSponsor too.
