I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

On a different note, do not get stuck with just consonant for pinyn. I have recently acquired a 5L domain with one vowel (u) It has a great meaning in pinyn and receives a daily 70 to 100 visitors from China with direct traffic!(no backlinks or organic traffic) Now is just redirecting to the domain sale page as I wouldn't be able to monetize it .

To a certain extend, yes. I've been building a database which speeds up things a lot, but I don't think machines can totally replace human efforts because languages are not precise and we people don't use our language by the rule book. Who could have thought that saying "my bad" is acceptable these days?

When you look at the sheer size of the Chinese Internet population, then any extension is possible. Personally, however, I'm still stuck with the concept that .co= Columbia and I don't know how stable the government will be. A good example in history is Syria. In 2013, art startup Artsy saw its Art.sy go blank when Syria cut itself off from the Internet. So, no, I'll stick to .com.

So, many combinations are possible. For example:

SXRD:山西融贷>Good brand for local lending services
SXRD:山西热点>Any hot topics related to Shanxi (tour services etc.)
SXRD:双响融贷>Lending with two big bangs! (ha ha)

I agree, Google Translate seems helpful but is it? It seems a good alternative only if you have nothing else, but it can be very confusing, for example if you type "CC" it will pull 2 words/syllables that start with C, so it returns Cao Cao (the general) but if you combine CC with other letters it will choose a different translation.. such as "ChūChǎn" which means production, so really the way it picks the translation could be based on keyword popularity but it looks very arbitrary.

Good observation! Look at the example in the guide.

Google translates:
DJDDP:大酒店点评>Hotel Reviews

but, the correct translation should be:
DJDDP:大酒店点评>Large Hotel Reviews

So, always check result with a native Chinese speaker.

I have a question of more general nature about China's internet. I have noticed that most of their website is pretty "basic". Very little graphics and mostly words. Is it because connection speed is low across the country or there are other reasons?
