There are two great threads on this forum.

One is about reporting sales without too much discussion / without the noise.
The other one is more liberal, and is about reporting and discussing details of sales.

Often, the moderation team moves postings from the first thread to the second thread, which is highly appreciated. Today I was surprised to see that the moderation team decided not to move a pretty distracted posting to another thread, and stated the following to me:

The thread discussion went like this:

Member A reports a sale.
Member B asks inbound? how many domains do you own?
Member A politely answers both questions, factual and in one short sentence.
Member C asks how do you keep track of your names?
Member A politely answers the question.

The question of member C was not in any way related to the reported sale any longer, and should have been moved to the other (or another) thread, so I brought it to the attention of the moderators. In the past, they would have moved the posting, and the thread would have been cleaned up. Moderator grateful for bringing this to their attention. This time however, the thread was not cleaned up (posting was not moved to elsewhere).

Am I the only one who is confused by this? When is discussion, and even unrelated discussion that follows (see the question of member C), still allowed in the Report thread?

Hello,

That particular thread’s guidelines (decided by its creator) don’t specifically state the type of discussion that’s allowed, so it’s open to each moderator’s interpretation and thoughts on what makes the most sense. That could explain why you might see slightly different decisions about it.

For example, we typically try to encourage the use of reactions rather than commentary in that thread, but questions about sales are allowed.

It’s possible that the moderator thought the question was about how you track your sales, which could be highly relevant and interesting to most readers of that thread.

Even how you track your names might be interesting to many readers of that thread, but this mod team would have preferred to move that question to another thread (or it’s own thread).

We hope that helps.
