Welcome to the new NamePros in November!

Today marks the first step toward a lot of positive and exciting changes coming to NamePros. You'll notice that most of what you loved is still here, and we're working hard to bring back even more.

And that's only the beginning! We'll be bringing you regular updates, sometimes weekly, to add the features you've requested (please vote on features you want to see first!) and improve your experience.

Our mission is to build a thriving professional network around the best community – that's you! – where professionals can engage in civil discussions, ask questions, share advice, partner, transact, and succeed, all together.

We hope you'll have a look around, and let us know what you think!

All our best,

The NamePros Team

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The old version looks more professional and simple .
The new one confusing for the eyes and looks like kids forums .
It will be appreciated to keep it optional choice to choose the new version or to use the old one for the members .

Some good features, but rip chat...I don't like the new appearance. Sorry, it's my opinion.

This is the saddest news of the month for me on NP. Being forced to change software just because some coder gone dead or something.
The coders aren't dead; they released a new version that fixes a lot of the behind-the-scenes issues in the old version. It's still not perfect, but at least we'll be able to keep up with security while simultaneously addressing many of the concerns that have been raised over the years that we were unable to fix in the old software.

the worst part is that non-auction-sale-thread bumps will only give you max 3 slots under "New posts" which means your sale threads will only stay on the site's sidebar for so little time. It used to be 6 slots for new posts. That, and the lack of highlights for almost everything (especially for new posts and domain auctions) except for.... ads (to be more precise, only pics & videos will be the highlights, nothing else).
Nothing is set in stone, and some features have yet to be ported to the new software. We'll get there eventually. :)

More clicks just to look at alerts, and each alert now takes so much space. (viewing on desktop)
It should be the same number of clicks: one. If it isn't, that may be a bug.

And a question - e.g. for those with 1k+ feedbacks & a few negative feedback like 1 or 2, will it show as 99% or 100% feedback score? Hopefully not 100% because that would mean big players can deceive a few without consequences, since others would simply glance over that 100% feedback score without a second thought.
That's an interesting point. The percentage is calculated the same way before, but it does take an additional click to see the full breakdown. I believe the percentage is rounded to the nearest integer, so in your scenario, it would display 100%.

Now the photo's are to large of a file to upload to server. (3.6mb)
We've been discussing allowing larger attachment and avatar uploads, but keep in mind that if you upload a 3.6 MB avatar, we're going to have to downscale it anyway before we can use it; 3.6 MB would slow down every page on which your avatar appears, particular for mobile users.

It will be appreciated to keep it optional choice to choose the new version or to use the old one for the members .
While we have been known to re-implement historical NamePros themes, I wouldn't expect this to be a possibility in the near-term. The underlying software has completely changed, so the old theme would have be completely rewritten from scratch for the new software.

Some good features, but rip chat
I'm personally in favor of adding that back. :) For a forum of our size, it's going to take some time to implement, however. We had to forego it for launch. The old chat used techniques that really didn't scale well and were causing problems behind-the-scenes. It also had a tendency to gobble battery on mobile devices like phones and laptops and could cause slowness for members who opened a lot of tabs on desktops. We've got a pretty good idea of how to better implement it in the future, but we don't want to rush it.

They appear to work, but a few things may cause some confusion:
  1. Pinned threads are not well separated yet, and they will always appear first regardless of sorting.
  2. Last message descending is the default view
  3. First message descending is equivalent to "Thread creation date descending"
It sure would be easier to understand if they just used a standard nomenclature like 'oldest first'/'newest first' or 'oldest message first'...

I, like many others, will miss the old NP's...so many years spent lurking and then finally joining has its 'style' embedded in my mind.

Of course it is a necessary move if the old software is not updated any longer. Let's all give it a couple of weeks for the management to tweak the new software. I will do my best to get used to the new format. RIP old NP's...welcome to the new.

Font seems too big viewing the site on a desktop browser, but adjusting zoom level to 80% site looks a little more like its old self.

Yes, for me, the main downside of the new design is the extra screen real estate it uses (and thus can’t see as much on one screen). Fonts are all larger, avatars larger, and even some cell padding, etc has increased. It would be nice if there were an option to decrease this (a ‘Compact’ view).

Also, you now have to click the Alerts button, whereas before I'm sure the Alerts feed came up just by hovering over it?...

Only on devices that didn't have any touchscreen capabilities, which excludes many newer laptops. This created an inconsistency across devices that could be rather annoying, and it was potentially an accessibility issue as well.

If you'd like instantaneous notifications, head to https://www.namepros.com/account/preferences and click the "Enable push notifications" button about halfway down the page:

I think the old design is way to old to be exactly copied. I must say that the new design, although I didn't like it at first. Is now growing more on me now I selected the dark screen, full width. Before with messages scrunched up in the middle of the screen, it felt like the lunatics had taken over the asylum. There's more room to breath with the full width screen, and with the dark screen not every page is so painful on the eyes. This is not exactly a spanking new design where everything doesn't works wonderfully, first time. I think this would have been too much for any one of us could take. My judgement is well ok, but needs to fix all the requests coming in, in double quick time.

I think we need to have some kind of voting system for the improvements we all would like to see. Sorry I've seen talk about voting, but no concrete tasks yet. All we have to do is find the thread :)

How do I get full width on 1920 x 1080 60.45 cm (23.8") monitor? Can't figure it out

Go to the bottom left of the screen just above the Domaining.com ad. The left most switch toggles the width.

Thanks.. Doesn't look good at full width for me, too wide & so I switched back.

Not getting notifications on likes. Has that changed permanently? Checked notification settings and all appears normal.

What I really liked about it was it doesn't make all the ads look so obtrusive as they do in the middle of the screen. A big plus for me :) Also the content line is too small also in the regular width (unless you are visiting NP on your phone :(

One beautiful thing with this new upgrade I just noticed now is that, we can now upload images directly.

No more 3rd party image host needed. This is very Great!

Click Width button in the footer.
But as for me, in this mode it look worse in terms of readability.
