I can understand the higher value of an old domain name when it has a web site in its name and therefore potentially generating traffic linked to it. But why an old domain name that is just seats in a registrar site can be more valuable than a new one ?

When you go to godaddy auctions and filter domains by traffic, you get some numbers. Those numbers cannot possibly be representative of actual legitimate traffic. I also checked one domain with the traffic value of 79000 with alexa and similarweb and neither give it any traffic at all. So what's...
