Not sure that Amex got this name, but I am sure that it would very well in ppc, with high payouts for anything related to credit card.

I feel like Ivory soap sure (99.44%) that AmEx bought this. I will be totally shocked if it turns out to be a different buyer.

Well, lets call it my gut feeling.

IMHO its not a good word for typeins.

I also thought it might be them, but apparently not.

The new owners are using the "Domains by Proxy" service, and parked it.

Type-ins, I would surmise have nothing to do with this sale.

It's called 'brandability'.

Imagine getting blasted with ads with the words 'blue.com, blah blah blah'.

I can almost guarantee that the majority of folks will see that being an extremely memorable name for whatever product the new owners try to shove down our throats.

yes, blue.com would be really easy to remember, thus it's high value.

True, but sometimes the words that arent words at all are well memorized too.

Words like Google, Honda, Saab, Volvo, DoCoMo. :)

not neccesarily. It's just that those words are so common now. BTW, not sure about DoCoMo, don't know what it is, LOL. And I'm sure i'm going to forget it in two days, it's really weird. Blue.com on the other hand will be remembered for sure though. So dictionary word .com's obviously have more value, as opposed to made up names. Think of it this way: back when domains first started up, would you have thought Google.com would be worth money? Or did you think Blue.com would be more worth getting?

The domain google.com would be worth nothing if there would not be kickass search engine (and now many more things like Maps, AdSense, desktop search, etc.) behind it.

Its all about the service behind the domain.

IMHO: "If it is good, they will use it" no matter what is the domain name.

exactly, but in this case, if the service was good too (blue.com), then it would be kickass. A good (domain) name, and a good service, what's better than that?
