I'm trying to figure this one out. Are they trying to be generic like xyz and fyi? I'm wondering why the high general availability of $239.00 per year?

Am I missing something or is this a money grab right out of the starting gate?

Any thoughts on .GDN?

Do you know what it stands for? Regardless, doesn't seem too special.

Don't think it stands for anything. Seems generic..

i was just thinking about that... at first I thought it meant "gimme all your money" but then ralized the letters do not match.

so its gotta be something along those lines, jusst different wording.

And $239 to register? I'm thinking I should make my own worthless extensions and charge a fortune for them, hoping people fall in my trap.

this is the very reasoning behind most new extens.. and as you see people do fall for it

whicch is precisely why other new ones keep popping out

there is no real reason or purpose behind creating or havin new extensions other than to cash on them.

imo the only real extensions with real meaning and genuine purpose and out of genuine need, that there were and are, is com net org.. maybe biz and maybe info too

The GDN registry is one of the most annoying criminal spammers in the world. In the past, I got some dozen spam mails about the GDN TLD "coming soon".

You wouldn't buy faked viagra from spammers, and so you should stay away from this TLD as much as you can.

Stands for "Global Domain Name", but I do not see how a .gdn will stand out as much good.

I mean, just try to say my company name is company dot G D N...

bit of a mouthful

Some of the new gtlds are complete nonsense in my opinion. Some are very nice, but most are junks.

gdn as in generic domain name? Any case, Id say this is one of the bad ones.

I guess if there was any upside to ,gdn maybe its a flat rate for all names therefore no renewals above $239.99. Meaning anything premium were others would have them in the thousands .gdn is a flat rate. But I can't seem to confirm this..

I'm gonna reg one super premium and see if it goes through at this rate, test it out.

Which domain name isn't a 'global domain name'?

Of course not every domain name / extension is open / registerable for everyone - but it is always (a) global (domain name) - it is the trait of domain names that they are global , the whole internet is global.
Every domain is part of the www - and because this is clear in any case, many didn't use the 'www' before their domain name and referring to that logic it's possible that many will not choose a '.gdn' as an / their extension.

The Chinese might like it, as all 3 letters are CHIPS and if you type GDN in Google Translate you get 光动能 which seems to mean "Light Energy" and who knows what other meanings it can bring up. Not to mention GD can stand for GuangDong and it could be used for businesses within the province. I bet we'll see many 1-3N registered from China as soon as the gTLD becomes available.

This connection to 'light energy' is an interesting thought, yes.
And of course, 1/2/3N will be registered fast. Like in nearly every g/tld.
But there are not sooo many possibilities for 1/2/3N registrations ;)
So what really counts, is the registrations of companies and other endusers; of existing websites at the end.

It says landrush is 000 UTC, DEC 7th.. Is that 6:00 PM tonight on the 6th here in the US CST? I'm a bit confused looking at the UTC chart because it says 000 UTC CST is 18:00 hrs, 6:00 pm previous day which would be now I'd think.

OK who knows this stuff? LOL

Does anyone know if they are available from the usual suspects such as Namecheap and GoDaddy?

I registered one only at 101domain.com, you can go there. GA isn't available yet but I paid extra for landrush. Landrush has launched but it still says pending, whenever that happens it's normally not good news.

I'll probably get an email saying it's reserved, premium etc.. It might go through, time will tell.

Anyone reg a .GDN and it went through?

I've only registered 2, first one showed available and not reserved. Waited and finally requested a refund.Tried a second one, still in pending and probably won't go through either. Gonna need to do anther refund request it appears.

I've been told by a contact that their API is all messed up, nothing shows reserved until it hits them and then they make a decision to reject the request or approve. I was also told with this one to email my rep first, see if they can reg it before paying for the domain to avoid doing all these card refunds...

Looks like a very bumpy start for .gdn. Pricing is high and their internal system seems broke. Is there any regs going through?
