If a site with PR5 links to my site thru a rotating banner ad which doesn't link to my site directly, will it help Google increase my PR? For example, there's no doubt it'll help me if it links directly to www.mysite.com; but what if it is located at www.hisbanner.com and it links to www.hisbanner.com/goto.php?3 like a banner rotating script? goto.php?3 redirects to mysite.com.

I think I explained it good enough....

Here's an example.

__http://www.paypettles.com << not my site
It's PR 2 and it has a banner rotating system which links to:
__http://www.paypettles.com/scripts/runner.php?BA=****** and so on. Will this redirect link be accepted by google as a direct link?

Also, when will Google's next PR update be, and how often does it update its PR listings?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

No, it will not benefit your site's PR. You need it to be a direct link.

Only direct links ( <a href="www.site.com">your site</a> ) are taken into consideration when PR is concerned.

So if you pay for a banner advertisement on the top of NamePros, it has no effect on your PR because the links aren't direct links, right? wrong?

Correct. The only way a link will benefit your PR is if it directly links to http://www.yoursite.com. A lot of sites use ad servers that have a format such as http://www.theirsite.com/advertise.php?ad=1, which does not benefit your PR. NamePros uses the second option I believe.

Ahh, I see, so maybe that's one of the disadvantages of these ad servers :(

I don't think it has anything to do with price, but rather just an easy effective way of managing the ads.
