Ever wondered how to make a portfolio sale?
I have been thinking, say instead of trying to flip individual names, what if I try to make a portfolio of say 100 names (niche to be decided - brandable, geo, EMD, single niche names etc,) and try to sell it, will it work.
Here are some limitations that I see:
1) The end users may need only 1 domain and hence, wouldn't buy the portfolio
2) Domainers may be the only one who may want to buy but they wouldn't pay
3) What are the prospects with small registrars - will they buy? Like Godaddy buys big portfolios, will small registrars buy small ones? I see less chances
4) What I do see as a prospect, is finding a niche and collecting like 20-50 decent domains. And then, finding one good buyer for the niche. This might work. Long shot, but looks like worth a try.
Have you tried such a thing so far? Ever had a portfolio sale? What kind and how was the experience?
Did you feel satisfied after the deal or you felt that you undersold?
Thoughts are welcome, even from those who haven't tried this out.
