Here's a useful tool:

DNS Coffee:
DNS Coffee collects and archives stats from DNS Zone files in order to provide insights into the growth and changes in DNS over time.

It appears to be more complete than robtex.com and many similar services.

Thanks to @Future Sensors for sharing it.

Don't forget to check DOMlinks.com where I'm periodically listing a lot of these tools for ease of use.

Disclaimer - It's a page I threw together but there are no ads or affiliate links so I don't profit in any way (incase I'm breaking a rule self promoting).

As a newbie, I'm bookmarking this thread. A lot of resources to check out. I liked expireddomains.net because if i click the domain name and click NameJet, it tells me if there are any bids and estibot value, really helpful since most websites have a limit on appraisals for free subscriptions. (Just a tip for any other newbies out there like me!)

Stay away from automated appraisals

The np completed sales thread is a good resource because it tells you the type of names that are being bought and or sold and many inbound enquiries it would seem and the price at which they are sold

Man...some of these tools are amazing. I never even knew about them.

I did not see any of these tools mentioned.

Use "www LeanDomainSearch com" to see if there are any quality word combinations available for registration.
Use "www Domai nr" to generate clever abbreviations.
Use "www Wordoid com" to generate fictitious word derivations.

Warning, new domainers. These are cool tools. Use with care, can be hard on your bank account.

(You need to add the dots to the links)

I would like to second this! Dofo is a go-to tool I now use daily, An easy one-stop place to quickly see how many and which extensions are registered and for sale. Or use the advanced search tool to answer more sophisticated questions such as how many domains in extension zzz are for sale with BIN prices above x,

An amazing free tool with an elegant, powerful and user-friendly interface. Who could ask for more?

Thanks @Macit for Dofo!

Bob
