Then does anyone really need the exact domain
but still they should have Nissan.com ... just imoNissan is a company that transcends beyond the realms of the internet, it has real showrooms on lots of streets and is a brand name that predates the .COM days, so it's not a prime example of a business that needs a .COM to survive.
Also, Nissan isn't shy of a few .COMs. They own Infiniti.com, Datsun.com and Nismo.com which are the other subsidiaries of their brand. They also operate numerous exact match 'Nissan' domains in ccTLDs around the world (See https://www.google.com/search?q=site:nissan.*). They also own the .COM for most of their individual product lines.
Agreed, for the sake of the business, but they can't when someone legitimately owned it before them and the court agrees so they've had to make do. I guess a bigger question is whether you should change your business name if you can't get the .COM, they clearly don't agree otherwise they might have done it already?but still they should have Nissan.com ... just imo
Was there ever a price on the table? There are no metrics to prove it, but something tells me they could have profited more than they would have paid for the domain had they purchased it.
That is an interesting question. As a long term branding I see that there should be a match, in general, between branded name and domain where possible. For example if my company name was Bob and there was no way I could get the .com, but my business is Furniture and I could get BobFurniture then I would rebrand as that name.I guess a bigger question is whether you should change your business name if you can't get the .COM

It seems like $15M was asking price after he already lost millions on lawsuits. Was there ever a price on the table?
After that crap they pulled with Uzi Nissan (they literally tried to bankrupt him using spurious lawsuits) I will never buy a Nissan-branded car and I know a lot of people in the IT sector who won't either. They have a really bad name for techies in the know, and a lot of people hope their head office gets swallowed by an act of God.
And it's no big deal to boycott this type of low-IQ internet bully corporation, as there is a lot of choice out there from other vendors.
Was there ever a price on the table?
Peace,
Kenny
I'm on the same boat, I'll never bother to get a car from these bullies. I also know quite a few people aware of the story (most in the IT as you said but not only) and all of them boycott Nissan.
I concur with the 10-15 million range as well stated above. With the size of the marketing budget and the amount of revenue the automobile industry collects is considered, the domain is priceless. (IMO)Was there ever a price on the table?

So they offered 10M and he didn't accept?I concur with the 10-15 million range as well stated above. With the size of the marketing budget and the amount of revenue the automobile industry collects is considered, the domain is priceless. (IMO)
So they offered 10M and he didn't accept?
I believe that was asking price. Although a more thorough investigation is warranted. So they offered 10M and he didn't accept?
Just asking...
Peace,
Kenny
This is my last Nissan ever. They aren't what they used to be anyhow. Just another junk brand.

FEBRUARY - 2008, Ruling on Attorneys' Fees and Final Judgment.
The court has issued a Ruling (PDF) addressing these remaining issues:
1. Nissan Motor is NOT entitled to attorneys' fees.
2. Nissan Computer is entitled to cost under rule 68.
The court ordered NMC to pay $58,000 as cost under rule 68, this is less than 2% of what the cost was to defend this case.
You would think this case is over..... but it really isn't
Nissan Motor's trademark registration.
Nissan Motor is attempting to obtain a Federal Trademark Registration for computers and computer peripherals among other classes of goods and services. We feel that Nissan Motor, in this action, is staging a future case against us in the computer and peripherals market.
We are left with no other course of action but to oppose this registration.
I don't think they need it but they sure do want it.Then does anyone really need the exact domain
