Although most of the attention has been focused on .casino's potential after bitcoin.casino sold for $28K, there are other interesting developments should be taken into account.

While weed.blog and bitcoin.blog were able to sell for 7K and 5K, respectively, it seems like forex has lost its trendiness.

Wholesale division retains number one position in new gTLDs. As per ntldstats.com (6th March 2017), CentralNic has a 32.4% market share of new gTLDs, with .xyz in the number one spot with 23.2% or 6.6m domains sold. New gTLDs are the fastest growing category of domain names, rising from 11m at the beginning of 2016 to over 27m by the beginning of 2017. There are also excellent prospects for future growth thanks to the MIIT accreditation for four domains distributed by CentralNic in China, including .xyz, as announced on 7th December 2016, as well as the large base of domains up for renewal this year.

One interesting situation to look at may be the rise of .xyz in China. Given the restrictions on the internet in China and its huge market, the approval of .xyz and MIIT accreditation is big. At least for CentralNic, the TLD appears to be growing fast. Even taking into account domains that are poor investments, the fact that these domains are being renewed, registered, and used instead of being dropped along its 2+ year history suggests there's something more to look at.

Impact.xyz sells for $3,500. Forex, once a highly sought after niche, sells for $2,159. That's not what you would have expected for forex, considering that it was a .blog sales week. Moral? Quality over quantity. Cliches like forex may continue to be popular. But there will always be bigger sales from users who want quality. It's also another reason to diversify your portfolio.
