information Top Topics: Should I Have Accepted the Offer?; Trademark Owner Wants to Buy My Name...

Spaceship Spaceship
Some time ago, NamePros published an article about securing your domain name registrar accounts by using two-factor authentication. After my own experiences this week, I've found there's one problem with this security system, and that is the person using it. Thanks to being forced to reset my phone (and losing my two-factor authentication app), I haven't been able to log into my eNom account for weeks, and so far their support service hasn't helped me to fix it.

If you do have two-factor authentication installed on any registrar such as Uniregistry or eNom, I would recommend keeping backup codes or a backup QR code to ensure that you always have access, no matter what.

Here's this week's top topics.

Should I Have Accepted This Offer?

Many investors receive and decline offers for domain names that in hindsight should have been accepted. In this discussion, @Ram corbin asks for opinions on whether a $3,000 offer for a domain name should have been accepted.

After hand registering a domain name last year, a CEO of a large company contacted him with a $3,000 offer, which the investor declined, in the hope that the CEO would then counter with a five figure offer. After no reply, was he right to decline the initial offer? Visit the discussion for more details on this.

A Trademark Owner Wants to Buy My Domain

A year after registering a .ORG domain with the intention of creating an online charity, @emgage was approached by a company that wanted to buy the domain. According to the initial email from the buyer, which is available in the discussion, they own a trademark for the domain's keyword.

Should the domain owner sell this domain? Could it be considered a bad faith registration if the owner chooses to reply with an asking price? How would you handle this situation?

I Enjoy Dropping Domain Names. Is That Crazy?

The practice of letting a domain name expire tends to be a negative experience; it means that after buying or registering a domain name, you're forced to realise that it isn't as good as you may have thought, or that no one else is interested in buying the name from you.

One investor has put a positive spin on dropping domain names, telling the community that he enjoys dropping names from his portfolio. According to the investor, his aim is to make his portfolio significantly better every year, which means dropping around a quarter of his portfolio.

What's your strategy when it comes to renewals?

The First Ever Domain Registered at GoDaddy

A documentary from Inc.com entitled "How a Former Marine Built GoDaddy Into a Billion-Dollar Business" has inspired an investor to do some research on the first domain ever to be registered at GoDaddy. In the documentary, mentioned above, GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons shares an interesting fact; the first ever domain to be registered at GoDaddy was GhettoJustice.com.

Investor @Joseph Green has published the history of this name, from the first website ever displayed on the domain to what the name is used for now. Although it's not the most valuable name, it's still a piece of history.

Bonus: What Are You Grateful For?

We have two bonus topics for you this week, alongside our Top Topics. The first is a discussion that isn't based around domain names at all. The question "what are you grateful for?" has been asked by one investor, and has been answered with overwhelming positivity and interest.

It's nice to take a minute every so often to think about what you're grateful for, or what you're lucky to have in your own life.

Bonus: Can New gTLDs Boost a Startup's Digital Presence?

Our second bonus topic is domain related, and is inspired by an article written on Entrepreneur.com about new gTLDs, and how they can help startups to improve their digital presence. The article has stirred up plenty of interest from investors, with some supporting the article and some opposed.

Whilst it's true that a new gTLD can help a cash-strapped startup in the beginning, migrating to a valuable .COM domain should be seen as the ultimate aim for many of these companies, at this time. What is your opinion?
