It is not a big surprise, but I am not sure it is good news for domain investors. Apparently, they haven't yet decided if Dan will still offer low commission rates.

I like GoDaddy. But takeovers more times than not is never good for the customer.

Takeovers usually mean prices go up or there are changes in a negative way. Next few months, get ready to see Dan.com's commision to be more like GoDaddy/Afternic, this is almost a cert, a Godaddy sub-brand is not going to be cheaper than its parent company.

Hopefully they can improve their customer service now. I have frequently been met with hostility for no reason when inquiring about domain sales on Dan and I haven't received the same hostility with GoDaddy.

For some reason, I don't feel joy about this news. I guess it's GoDanny now.

Another thing i liked with Dan is you could see the persons/companies name who you was negotiating with.

I think there is now a good chance this will be removed - Also GoDaddy have their own brokerage teams, interested to hear what this deal means for Media Options contract/ties with Dan.

Hmm. I use GoDaddy (Afternic) and I use Dan.com.

Afternic has a wide reach, but Dan.com has better landers, a lower commission, and you control your leads.

I hope GoDaddy does not mess with Dan.com and kill it.

Either way, likely not a good move for domain investors. Consolidation and fewer choices never are.

Probably a good business move for GD and probably a good business move for Dan. Just gives less choice to domain investors. I wish GD would upgrade it's own site. Both Uniregistry and Dan have far better websites than GD imo.

I hope GD doesn't take over Namepros.

It is what it is. I liked having the two separate.

Let's be honest here...

My prediction is nothing changes that much with Dan.com, but the lower commission goes to 20%.

I fail to see the upside here for domain investors.

If Dan.com just turns into Afternic 2.0 I will find another option for my landers. I don't like putting buy it now prices on my better domains, and negotiation via landers is where you yield the best sales.

It is essential that I control my leads on these domains.

I have thousands of priced domains on Afternic, but as far as the others go, I am not going to handle my own leads, negotiation, and also pay 20%.

You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes you just might find....you get what you need.

Paul Nicks sounds like a politician all through the interview.

That's never a good thing.

Anyway, congrats to Dan.com owners. Quite certain they got a huge payday.
