Libri.de one of the most well known online book shops and book distrbutor is rebranding to "eBook.de"
It shows the value of generic domains. Even though eBook is not German is it used and growing acceptance as a word as opposed to "eBuch". The question remains if this was a clever sell from a marketing company to rebrand libri or does it show a willingness of companies to move to gerneic domains.

With a new name and changed brand appearance the Hamburg on-line trader places Libri.de in future completely on the business with E-Books. At the beginning of the Frankfurt Book Fair on the 10th of October the subsidiary of the Buchgroßhändlers Libri GmbH changes her name in eBook.de. "We give up a ten year-old brand because we want to believe in the strong future of E-Books and underline this with our new name", said manager by Dalheimer of the news agency DPA.

On Libri.de more digital book expenses would be bought meanwhile than printed, said Dalheimer. With the E-Book there are clearly three-place growth rates, while the printed book stagnates. With the "radical step" the enterprise takes "the category name which is used so still by no brand in Germany". However, the offer of the on-line shop should also enclose in future printed books.

With the use of the open Epub standard the on-line trader is directed at a wide customer circle, no matter which kind of reader is used – also Kindle and iPad move to the Epub representation. It is a matter of making the E Book reading very easy, Dalheimer said compared with DPA, possibly by the copy protection: "The offer from 'weichem DRM' with watermark also belongs to it as an alternative to hard DRM." Such a watermark marks the originator without limiting the possibility for private copies.

To what extent this can be realised, however, the legal owner decisively depends on the considerations. There are some publishing companies who would have already recognised the trend. "I do not hold it for likely that unlawful copies will increase with a soft DRM", said Dalheimer. For the start from eBook.de 200,000 will be available according to his information 10,000 a total of 750,000 titles (under it in German) without copy protection. Besides, it concerns fiction publishing company titles, so not around books which are provided possibly from the science from the start as a PDF without DRM. A forecast, as the watermark draught will present itself in one year, cannot be put yet, said Dalheimer.

Libri.de originated in 1997 under the roof in 1928 from Georg Lingenbrink in Hamburg of founded book wholesaler Libri. In 2005 the on-line trader took up for the first time electronic books in his assortment. Moreover, pursued Libri.de up to now also on-line shops for bookstores. Now this business division will hand over to the parent company. (DPA) / (axk)

So it's 10 years old, not 100 ?

84 years not 100

"Libri.de originated in 1997 under the roof in 1928 from Georg Lingenbrink in Hamburg of founded book wholesaler Libri."

I should have said "nearly 100 year old brand" (84 years old). Libri was founded in 1928 and they launched libri.de in 1997.
