The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Nevertheless harbour + cam is not a bad combination.
There are many documentaries / videos about harbours (because there are many - huge - harbours worldwide and many of them have live cams - so this would be a good domain for them), harbours can be interesting to watch.

question I have is, we're all purchasing these domains but what do you plan to do with them? Sell asap or keep them?

I'm fairly new to domaining so was curious to know from some of the experienced bunch who have bought domains what they think will happen with this extension?

Im thinking to develop some of mine in the hope of earning some adsense revenue on them to atleast cover the renewal fees every year on them. I think they are going to be names that could be worth something because the .cam extension can become part of the keyword, for example my Inspection.cam domain, there are businesses looking for Inspection Cams for use engineering/mechanics etc. However, may have to hold onto them for a few years before they will sell i think. I might even try and submit them to next years NamesCon

How did they allow this name that is confusingly similar to .com? O_o?

Of course, I will sell them 'as soon as possible' but I think this will not be 'soon' because they are expensive nowww ;)

In the meanwhile I will see how they will work as ad parking sites (SEDO).
It's also my Intention to contact possible endusers.
Gnereally, the meaningful combination posibilities of word + .cam are limited - but with some words it makes perfect sense. It's a try, we will seee

I think 'they' 'allowed' it, because the 'similarity' is not really a confusing one.
The sound of both ('cam' / 'com') is not so similar that one of both could be heard as the other one.
Also the [A] and the [O] key on the keyboard are not near together - so typing errors are nearly impossible.

Furthermore, 'cam' is a word (actually an abbrevation) and I think it would not be easy to not 'allow' it if we see how many words are 'allowed' / created already as TLD today.

This name is fantastic for scammers.

People don't actually read all letters, they skim through them.

If someone sends phishing email from [email protected] lots of people will absolutely think it is legit...

That's possible, especially in this early phase.

So maybe Versigin should start a worldwide campaign to point the difference between the TLD
.cam and their own TLD in a neutral way out (A & O), I think they have enough money to do that (also in their own interest).
Then .cam will get very popular and people will look carefully.

No goliath will ever promote a david...

For them, better strategy is to wait and see if .cam a) goes into obscurity by itself; b) earns sCAMmy reputation...

Wasn't it David, who was winning at the end?

Legend has it so... Though, if you go around betting your money on davids, you'd probably go broke soon. For each winning david, there are thousands of losing ones. Just no one makes legends about them...

Time creates competitors and if Verisign wants to stay alive, they will have to act.
And they already started to act, they know it...

Well congrats on your acquisitions. I am happy to see you guys are interested in .cam. I would be even more happier if i would see some real sites out there instead of parking pages, sedo or whatever. Maybe investing time and nurturing them and adding some good content may in the end yield some good results. But of course it's up to you what you do with the domain, mainly if you look at it as an investor/domainer/broker.
Also, if a domain was available at $4.88 or $4.99 or whatever promo pricing your preferred registrar is doing, then that domain was never in the premium list, so there is no chance any of you found it few months ago at premium pricing.
Nonetheless, i'm happy to see .cam is gaining some traction, and we started getting some real content sites on-board. More and more showing up actually. Honestly, i think the value of a TLD is given by the amount of real content it gets on it's domains.
Cgrats once again.

Really, i dont think you are correct. But its your opinion and i respect it, no matter what i think. I can only argue that people do read, and nowdays, the awareness increased as far as scam and online fraud is regarded. The funny thing is that soon enough, your example might just be correct and legit. Because we have tons of banks that purchased their own .cam as it stands for "capital asset management".

Sorry can't do. You will have to take my word for granted.

Interestingly, many people that bought .cam started contracting a weird life threatening disease showing that there is no firewall between internet and real life domains.

Sorry, cannot give out any names, you will have to take my word for granted.

No problem. As a registry we know some of them. Some are privacy freaks but it's okay.
