Dating back to 2001, the oldest whois history record for AV.com and the domain was owned and used by AltaVista. By March 4, 2004 Yahoo! first appears in whois records. Overture purchased AltaVista and Yahoo purchased Overture, so that is how Yahoo! took ownership of the domain name.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a domainer who bought it.
But apparently not.
The domain has a connection with tmd.com(Look on the tmd.com reference on the top of the page at av.com).
If you will run an whois search on tmd.com, you will find that it is owned by "Registrant Organization: LuoFei" & "Registrant Name: Luofei".
If it is the same Luo Fei I read about, this is an End User purchase.
