If you want to know how the domain name expiration process works in detail, you need to watch today’s show with Chris Ambler.

We discuss:
* The domain name expiration process
* Which auction partners are associated with which registrars
* The best drop catching services to use
* When domain names drop and when they go to auction
* And much more!

Thank you Michael for your research and for your interesting and helpful interview with Chris. Very nice job.

And Chris, always great to hear your insight and views, especially in this area of domaining. I really enjoyed speaking with you at NamesCon and hope to work with you on a project this year.

Mic, great show. I find these kind of interviews more useful than usual appraisal shows.

Thanks, @Hypersot. I've been searching for someone to talk about the life cycle for years, and nobody wanted to go on record for some reason. So I was ecstatic to have Chris on the show! It did not disappoint.

Thanks, @abcproductions. Much appreciated.

Thanks, @Keith-DeBoer. :)

This was a great interview and learned a lot!

Glad to hear, @gary-Moore. If you have any other topics you'd like me to find a Sherpa to discuss, please let me know in this thread or via email: http://www.domainsherpa.com/contact/

Thanks, @FridaySale. I love a mix of shows, but I'm pleased to hear you like this type. I do in-depth interviews like this one at least twice per month.

Interesting show. I now have a better understanding of the variable grace period (Godaddy starts quickly at the 5th day) and also why Network Solutions names are in demand when they drop (lots of older names). Here's the auction partners link mentioned in the show: http://www.domainsherpa.com/auction-partners-of-domain-name-registrars/ and related discussion here in the forum: https://www.namepros.com/threads/registrars-that-auction-expiring-domains-directly.882445/

Yeah, @buywebsites.biz. GoDaddy has an interesting process, and one that investors need to understand as they're the 800 pound registrar gorilla. We need to understand how they operate, as they're the only ones that operate in that manner.

@DomainSherpa I just looked in my Godaddy account and it seems their grace period is actually around 11 days (this is for a recently expired .com):

The domain(s) below expired on February 09, 2016. Renew your item(s) before February 20, 2016 to avoid an $80.00 redemption fee.
Either way it's a pretty short duration.

Interesting. According to GoDaddy's own policy the domain name is supposed to only have a regular renewal fee until day 19 after expiration: https://www.godaddy.com/help/what-happens-after-domain-names-expire-6700

No show for this weekend?

With the launch of DNAcademy last week in addition to the the ramp-up for that launch, plus mid-winter break for the schools in Seattle, I decided to take this week off.

We'll be back on air next week!

Have a great day,
Michael
