Showcase your .APP domains! I'd love to see them...
The first indications always happen in the month before the anniversary. That's when people often decide to renew. Some registrars also have their customers renew up to a month before the expiry date. Some registrars are a bit more aggressive on renewals.Nothing will be in April...
GA was started in May.
Different market. The .TOP is a Chinese market gTLD. That means that it has a completely different profile to Western dominated gTLDs. Affiliate landers are a lot more common than in Western dominated TLDs. Active % is 3.94% and HTTPS redirects are 1.24%. Not found: 15.89%. Holding: 21.37%, Affiliate landers (gambling etc): 10.81%. Adult: 6.04%. Sale: 2.04% It is a highly speculative gTLD and there is a lot of non-renewal and replacement.Even .TOP has significantly better parking ratio...
I'm not disagreeing with your forecast as such. It is just that there are some factors that may influence renewals. The fact that it is a Google gTLD may help it. Pricing and auto-renewals will also have an effect as people generally renew more expensive domain names. That's why many of the small NGTs have strong renewal rates but the highly discounted NGTs have low renewal rates.Renewal is minimum ~$14...
At this rate nobody will renew higher than 50% of domains if no significant sales (cashflow from this TLD).
This is my own forecast.
Thank you for the really interesting data @jmcc! Is the PPC high compared to other new gTLDs? I was surprised it was this high in .app, just wondered if it is atypical. BobNo site response: 22.7% (typical for most NGTs)
Active/unclassified: 1.96%
HTTPS redirect: 6.67%
Not found etc: 1.56%
Hold: 14.76%
PPC: 35.68%
Sale: 8.56%

The thing to watch for is renewal discount offers. Registries that are expecting poor renewal rates on full-fee renewals often discount the renewals to hang on to as many regs as possible. The .EU halved its renewal rates after the first year. It is a bit of a gamble for registries but the thinking is that after a second renewal, the domain names will keep being renewed. The lowest I see: $12 transfer to 1and1...
Including the dead .mobiEven Google+ has failed.
And overall, Google had many unsuccessful startups.
PPC varies across the spectrum, Bob.Thank you for the really interesting data @jmcc! Is the PPC high compared to other new gTLDs? I was surprised it was this high in .app, just wondered if it is atypical. Bob
Still around 400K and the renewal rate for first year regs is good. But Google was only a shareholder in that venture rather than the registry. It was Apple's decision to stick with .COM and the improving display quality of mobile devices that really hit .MOBI hard.Including the dead .mobi
That is an issue but the new registrations activity has shifted towards the Asian market. I don't know how it is doing on Asian aftermarket sites but it might be interesting to check. When I say "dead" I mean that aftermarket is dead.
March 2019:Almost the same for .DEV (another Google TLD): ~72%
