I just got a phone call from Standard Life asking what my intentions where in relation to developing a domain name I purchased

www.astandardlife.com

I told them I was planning on developing it as a discussion forum on everyday life.

Can they legal take this domain from me or would they need to purchase the domain from me?

Keep their email asking you that and your replied intent. Your domain is as
common as common goes, and you have a big chance of keeping it as long as
you don't have any reference whatsoever to what the other party is doing.

But ys it does seem very generic so as long as you dont make it a site about their company then you shouldn't need to worry.
