Hi All,
We know, one registrant has launch great discount for registering new '.best' (dot best).
My knowledge is very limited about this extension. But I have tried to register some new names. Such as:

cap.best
bat.best
ham.best
dew.best
nap.best
tan.best
yap.best
night.best
morning.best

So What are yours?
And, Anyone can help me (or us) to explain how about the future prospects of this extension (dot best) for global market?

Thank you...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Notice how most of those eating up Cyril the Salesman's sales pitch are relative NEWBIES..... and the more experienced members are seeing it for what it is (a complete waste of money that serves to enrich the salesman and registrars).

Posts from people like this should really be marked with a giant BIASED SALESMAN POST disclaimer.

.best is a joke
this thread is a joke

Unfortunately it seems there are a lot of desperate domainers around here, just sitting around waiting for the next salesman to arrive and "help" them achieve riches.

People should realize that by listening to this BS they're simply throwing away money and enriching Cyril the Salesman.

Sad that this BS is allowed on NamePros!
🚩

.best is not a joke, it is a new TLD and this thread is not a joke, it is a thread about .best and nobody is forced to register any domain nameee

Of course is Cyril, the .best CEO, a salesman ... and???
Do you think that we don't realize that???

The world (wide web) is full of salesmen and I tend to assume that, regarding your own domain names, you are also one ...

It is great to have the CEO of a TLD here, talking (writing) directly with his (future) customers (or non customers) - this is rather the exception.

Sure I don't recommend to register blindly every next best keyword in every next best TLD but if there is an opportunity to buy low the chance to sell high, then I can understand everyone here - we are all calculating the (relative low) risk but thanks for your critic, although is was somehow redundant to be honest...

...and by the way, and I did 100 % not throw away moneyyy

Thanks for the detailed feedback on pricing Cyril. A big problem is even though .best renewals at registrar level went down from $80 (Godaddy early in year) to $17.50 (at Dynadot today) which makes the lowering of renewals seem very large but of dubious value..

With that said, I believe the vast majority of us paid in a range of $1.49 to $2.99 for .best with the great deals offered by several registrars earlier in year.

So for myself (average cost of buying being $2.50) a $17.50 renewal is NOT a reduction in my cost but instead is a massive 700% increase :xf.frown: making likelihood of renewing most of my .best extremely unlikely.

First, $17.50 for 2 years for a .Best is equal to 2 years of .com ;)

But if you (or other .Best domain investors) would like to renew a lot of .Best domains for many years in advance to secure and reduce your renewal pricing, I can work on a special discount. Just DM the list of .Best domains you want to renew and for how many years and I can work on a special discount.

@Cyril.Best : so the registry has switched to premium some.best domain names that had been registered at standard rates? It would appear so. To my knowledge this has very, very rarely been done with continuously registered domains in other TLDs and makes domainer investments in the extension difficult since future renewals are uncertain. Also it means that information to be given to potential purchasers could be misleading. Please respond and I hope that you will assure us that this is some error and not in fact the case.
Thank you,
Bob

If they have bumped already registered .best domains from standard renewals into a premium category that is really shady. It is a classic case of bait & switch if true.
Brad
Thanks for your support, @bmugford.

I am hoping that Cyril will respond (it has only been a few hours) but it certainly seems to be true. I hand registered one just days ago at standard discounted rate. It now, if looking at renewals at places like MrDomain that how it even for already registered names, is designated premium with a renewal rate of more than $100 USD (vs the standard of about $18). Another domain I bought from a domainer just a few days ago, but that was a fresh registration (a registrar marketplace purchase so the 60 day lock did not apply) is now listed with a premium status and a renewal of roughly $700 per year, which of course makes it virtually unsellable even though it is a nice name.

I have checked so far about 15 other names, and many even short and good, are still at standard renewal rates, but there are at least two others in my portfolio now designated premium and with high (multi hundreds of dollars) renewal rates.

I hope this is some mixup and @Cyril.Best will clarify or reverse, but if true it is completely unfair in my opinion. I would never have purchased these domain names at those renewals. No end user will, I think, buy domains with this registry if they hear that currently registered domain names can change their status in a major way.

I understand that new extension registry operation is financially challenging. I would not be opposed to a registry reclassifying domain names that have dropped and are being resold, because the buyer will know the status. However, we should not allow registries to get away with changing standard/premium status on continuously registered domain names.

I have a couple of hundred new extensions in my portfolio of 500, and have held different ones in the past, and this has never happened to me with any other registry or name.

Please @Cyril.Best tell us this is some mistake.

Please note it is possible this had not happened. One of my names held at Namecheap seems to let me renew at standard even though MrDomain has it clearly indicated as premium. We definitely need clarification, but let's not over react until we know for sure.

This is good example of why end users will never embrace these oddball extensions.
Higher prices, different renewal tiers. It is just way too confusing.

Also, $70+ to renew a .best is ridiculous.

Thank you for the effort you have put into responding here, and elsewhere, @Cyril.Best. We are fortunate that NamePros is a community where an individual domainer can interact with even registry CEOs.

While I see some logic to your argument @Cyril.Best that you are supposedly not increasing renewal rates from those known at the time of registration (i.e. domains registered before the price announcement carry the $70 ish renewal, and those after the new standard rates (unless they were purchased as a higher priced premium domain name) renew at the lower standard rate, I think the confusion of such a structure, not known in other TLDs to my knowledge, is a definite negative as @namemarket points out:
The uncertainty is a big negative for those planning on keeping and renewing, or buying new .best names

The most important thing for both registry and domainers is clarity and as much certainty as possible. I would have thought that is better achieved by making all renewal (except those which were always premium purchase and renewal) at standard rates. Also, to not designate any domain names as premium while they are continually registered. Once a domain name expires, by all means designate it to as now premium if you wish and set the tier for purchase and renewal.

I am appreciative that at least for those purchased after the price announcement at discounted rates that there is a clear statement standard renewal (until the name expires).
"A .best standard domain name with a registration date after Feb 5, and was registered at the standard discounted rate of a few dollars retail, should not now be designated premium and should have the standard renewal rate." : 100% correct !

Would this be a good time for me to point out that I am the registrant for clearly (.best) :xf.cool:? While appreciating the clarity added so far, I hope that the renewal and premium status of .best can be made even more clear and simple for all to understand. It will help us sell .best and ultimately help the registry with more registrations and more renewals.

All the .best,

Bob

I see that there is finally on NameBio a 4-figure .best sale!
B T V s p o r t s .best was just posted, sale at Dynadot, $3261
Although 31 other .best sales in $100+ database, all others are in 3-figure range.
Hopefully eventually I will have luck with some of my .best!

First, I do not really like the « hype » term, because it doesn’t really mean anything in terms of marketing and registry success (unless you compare the hype to a real KPI)
Hi Cyril,

I think Brad was referencing posts that extolled the virtues of .best and built excitement for the extension by providing information and statistics that don't paint a complete picture.

Examples:
  • Producing a graph showing increase in renewals without including any numbers.
  • Listing names using the best app platform, but not providing total number of users, details on whether that meets targets, or future projections linked to real data.
  • Sharing vague stats with a positive spin, like the comparison of GoDaddy sales/users to Apple and Google app store sales/users.
Generally, your posts have had a lot of positive energy, but have been very text heavy and light on information that allows investors to make a balanced and informed choice. That's hype. You don't have to like the word to do it. ;)

Good luck with the extension!

Almost 10 months after the last post, not much appears to be happening.

.BEST has (10) reported sales in the last year for $3,716 total. All the reported sales were in the XXX range.

The app now has "100+" downloads on the Play Store with no reviews.

I guess you can add this to the long list of new extensions that overpromised and underdelivered.

Brad

Glad to help.

OK so First, let me give you few information about our .Best pricing strategy as I think this is one of the big important change we made.

So;

1. On the registration side, we already set promotions with different registrars for all this year.

.Best domains were at $1 last month with OVH and this month (only valid until end of March), .Best are in promotion at $1.99 at Dynadot.com so I encourage you to benefit of this promo right now coz a lot of big names are "still" available.

2. On the renewal side, we already inform all our registrars on Feb 5th that we will get down the wholesale renewal price at $15 ! As we have a legal notice of 6 months, it means that registrars should change their .Best renewal price on 5th August max ! So it means that all the "non-premiums" domains that you register right now will be renew at $15 wholesale price next year and the years after.

Hope it helps.

THIS IS GONNA BE THE BEST NEWS FOR US. Thanks @Cyril.Best.

Great to see the registry is doing well with its extension.

Let's check out those reported aftermarket sales:

https://namebio.com/?s==UTOwMjM3AjM

Yikes!

Only my opinion, of course, but methinks owning a name in this extension will only be appealing to businesses who can buy them at non-premium, reg fee prices. Chances of resale by domainers? Tiny.

There is one name in this extension that looks awesome, though: MamaKnows.Best! Damn, it's taken.

I think the names posted in this thread are not great. And quite frankly it's difficult to have names that make sense semantically because 'best' should precede the keyword. Reverse order is awkward.

Hopeforthe.best but prepareforthe.worst :)

It is same with most of the other extensions. For example live.sex is better than sex.live but sex.live sold for 160,000 USD. IMO left side of dot should have your business keyword and right side of the dot is the marker or indicator (or state) of the business.
