My first domain I bought was in 1995 but started in domaining between 2000-2001.

2011.

It all started because I was looking for a shorter DN to use as a forwarder to a website I developed. Problem is, once I found it (2 character ccTLD), it opened up a whole new world and my website took a backseat to an insatiable appetite for domains.

I started owning a few domains mainly for development purposes in 2001 (.ca and .net only), but as an active seller (mainly in ngTLDs) only less than two years. So was not sure how to vote, but selected the 2016 option. It is an interesting poll, and early results show how varied the NPs community is!

Went off like a machine gun in 1999, once I learnt the fixed price of $70 a year had been done away with new registration services (some registers still held on to the $70 pricing)

(First registration: 2005) - Here's when and how I got started: https://www.namepros.com/blog/how-i-broke-free-from-the-chains-and-got-my-start.848899/

As an added note to the last paragraph in that 2015 article, the wife and I are now full-time in a 30ft Winnebago brave (Thanks to the domain industry). It didn't quite happen the way we envisioned it to and it was actually a bit tragic, but then, the universe has a strange way of delivering dreams after ones been put through a ringer.
