have you tried other landers besides dns? trying to figure out if their specific landers are making a difference

Please keep in mind when you guys start quoting/bashing actual domains published on BB that these belong to people who have vested interest in them. They are actually owned by someone who who paid to acquire it, paid to have it listed, and is actively trying to sell it and these pages are indexed by Google. You may not like the name personally but you are potentially costing someone a sale with your comments and losing them money. NamePros should be a place to help people advance financially and not hurt them.

True, but it is equally true that you have no reasonable expectation to privacy here, and that when you post any name (anything), you run a risk a future buyer will see it and use it against you. If anyone is really concerned with this, they shouldn't post on here, or at a minimum, disguise the domain by any one of a number of popular techniques.

We can have a debate about technicalities and privacy on the internet or we can just have a mutual respect for one another. There are tons of names I don't like on BB, but I'm not going to quote and single out an actual name as a reference and list similar examples of what's available for regfee unless a person specifically requested an appraisal. I think it's just the decent thing to do.

Ethically and Professionally.... I must say the ugly truth about a very bad name when I see one. I will make its owner sad (no hard feelings), BUT I will be saving 10s of domain noobs here from cloning that strategy and buying similar ugly domains. These noobs, end up paying almost all what they got into buying shit! Then they hate domaining and hours of work earninings into a bad investment.
I would save the noobs everyday! I have 5% of my portfolio worthy the worst criticism ever! These are the names I mostly bought when I started domining, I let most of them expire. I wont take it personal if you say they are bad! Actually, i go one step further, I dont even try selling them here! coz I believe they are shit and shit must be buried in the ground! not given to people!
Take my words with a grain of salt, but I will always do what saves noobs that come here to learn! One day someone else did this to me in domaining and I will remain thankful to him till I retire!
Good Luck hunting and selling! :)

I get what you're saying but who's to say what's a good brandable or not when it's a made up word, while made-up words account for a large portion of the sales on BB? It's all a matter of one's personal opinion and opinions are great and everyone is entitled to one, but if you're claiming your opinion is to help people and not hurt them, you can start helping by not hurting the owner of a name that's listed. And I'm not saying you personally, just in general.

I am really sorry I should have disguised the names, honest mistake. Currently I don't have privilege to edit my post. Maybe one of the mods will disguise the names on behalf of me. Reporting my post also might help to get mod attention.

BB used to follow some sort of rules before accepting made up brandables, and they used to be pretty strict that's why acceptance rate was very low those days, But after starting to charge $10 listing fee they are now not maintaining those rules anymore, that's why we are seeing a marketplace with lots of similar made up brandables. Couple of these names might sell each week but again they are adding hundreds of more each week too. I am totally against this strategy of BB.

  • If the name is based on a dictionary word -- and sounds the same as that word -- it should have no more than one spelling variation or "error" away from the original word. This makes it easy to explain to customers. For example: Digg is "dig with two g's".
  • Pronunciation should be straightforward.
  • Spelling should be as expected.
    • Ask your friends to spell your name -- can they get it in one or two tries?
    • Is the same vowel being used for two different sounds, or is the same sound represented by two different vowels (for example, the 'ee' sound can be an 'e' or an 'i')?
  • If the name has a keyword, or root word, it should apply to a popular industry, or be broad enough to apply to several different business types.
  • There should be no more than three syllables.
In some cases we do approve domains with keywords, but that follow specific criteria. For two-word (compound) names. we're looking for:

  • Both words should be spelled fully and correctly.
  • The words should have something in common, or a linguistic connection (same first letter, same vowel sound, etc.). They can also be a common phrase, or play on a common phrase.
  • One (or both) of the words should relate to either a popular industry, or be broad enough to apply to many different types of industries.
Other things we try to avoid:

  • Numbers
  • Keyword combinations over two words
  • Very long names
  • Prefixes like 'a', 'the', or 'my'
  • Suffixes/endings like 'app', 'biz', or 'inc'
  • Plurals, except in some rare cases where a domain would make a clever consumer product name (not a company name).

@sweetdomains

Please enlighten us what YOU feel a brandbucket domain should be. Care to share your profile?

Please tell me why "vurada.com" is so special that a company should pay $2,035 where similar pronounceable names like vuradi, vuradu available for handreg?
I think as sellers gain more experience of the phonetic and linguistic make-up that makes a good brand, they'll probably find it easy to distinguish between the names you mention there. The name ending in "ada" is probably worth 3-4x at a minimum the value of the other 2 mentioned IMO.

Ouch my eyes!
That guy uses the same font and its impossible to read.

BB logos are 90% of the time just fine. I read M. Krell's blog and he posts a lot of names that he sold. When I revisit these sites, none of them are using BB logo.

So the logo does not have to be super elaborate. No matter what, the company buying the names will always use their own logos that fits their website design.
Almost nobody who purchase a brandable domain with logo, use that logo for their website ...
The logo only helps to present and "PACK" better the domain name.

I have a case, when the purchased domain was not used and ended being parket at GoDaddy...

Because passing the "radio test" is not nearly as important as it was back when the primary advertising vehicle was...radio. A quick check will find lots of big companies who's name doesn't pass this outdated test. All else being equal, sure throw it in, but it certainly isn't the universal standard it once was.

Very true. The radio test is just one attribute of which a name can be assessed. If it meets other attributes (such as length, unique, positive sounding, evocative, relevant etc etc) then it can still be a VERY good name.

Not many brand names these days tick every single "wish list" box, since branding has been going on for so long that very obvious names are already gone, and trade-marked.

I sold a domain years ago on BB for $4,560 and one year later I got it back on GD auctions for $30 ...

Sold my second domain today after leaving Brandbucket. Now I can fully confirm that the profit I took from Afternic in 3.5 weeks is equal to the profit I took from Brandbucket in the last 3 months if not more.

Other advantages so far :
1) 2 Hot leads with 2 other names using my landers. If any of them sells, I will have profit equal to 6 months on BB!
2) Daily parking of $5 or around that
3) collecting smaller leads and able to cross sell my own names to prospects ( I am brokering the names myself rather than leaving it to DNS brokers).

Another beautiful thing, the name was sold when I was asleep, transferred and everything as it was on the premium network for Afternic! I just confirmed I want paypal and will get the money in 1-2 business days. Thats in average 10 days faster than the BB manual process.

Note : What I am listing here is my own personal experience. This doesnt mean its a best practice for everyone. Dont come whining to me you didnt get similar stats off BB.

What makes me happy today if that I got confirmed I did the right decision! I think time will only prove me right more and more as we move on!

Now I made my sales quota until mid february, so no stress if nothing sold for the coming 3 weeks! I am traelling to Mexico then Vegas then Texas right now. This sales was a great start for my trip. I will buy myself a cool gadget from the US this time :)

Good Luck everyone .. You will always need it!

I don't like the new image of the home page.
But my 4L is showing in the Premium section of front page so that's nice :)

The new layout is great!

The search bar is now the first thing visitors see! This will change things... before you had to scroll up to find the search bar. Now people will know immediately to search. Could lead to more sales!

Other changes: Now there is 3 different categories on the front page!: 1)Featured Names, 2)Premium Names, 3) Recently Added Names. Looks like the term 'Staff Picks' is now Featured Names. Premium names are determined by price. And 'recently added' is self describing. This is the biggest game changer IMO. Before only 'staff picks' were on the front page by default, visitors had to navigate to the 'menu' to change the view. This change will also guarantee EVERY name graces the front page.

Also like that the 'categories' 'sort by' and 'price range' filters are now front and center. Before you had to click on the 'menu' to see these options. Awesome!

The sites UI is a lot more user friendly IMO.

If anyone happens to spot a 'bug' don't be shy! Post it so it can get fixed ASAP

Happy Domaining!

I think the cloud gave instant ideas to browse by if someone didn't have a specific keyword in mind, now it'll take effort to find it, although little effort, no effort is always better. But dunno yet, they know how users navigate so. We'll see.

Maybe a cloud should appear '4L, 5L, 6L, 7L+' when someone clicks on 'INVENTED' or the category drop-down should automatically appear once a section is clicked on.

  • The sidebar remains visible by scrolling at a speed relative to the page’s height.
