There is a domain I wanted that the owner hasn't renewed that has expired last week (by chance I monitored the WHOIS for the past few weeks).
It's not a valuable domain, but is just something I personally wanted. It also fulfills the requirements that I know Hugedomains/similar tend to scoop up and hold ransom for 10 years (i.e. 2 word, relevant words, .com).
In such a scenario, are you better off attempting to let the domain expire and hope to grab it with a dropcatcher or hand-reg it, or to message the current seller and try to get them to sell it to you?
Obviously, if you message the seller they are going to immediately renew it, think it's worth more than it is, and quickly renew it. Domain was hand-regged in 2020 for the first time ever. I wouldn't pay much for it personally.
Alternatively, I'm not familiar enough with how the dropped domain process works, and if Hugedomains/similar always beat out an individual when it comes to getting a dropped domain? And if HugeDomains get it, you're stuck with their 2k price tag for every domain for years until they realize no one wants it.
