I have to say that china's domain name industry is very important. Because of the difference of lingustic, some valueless domain name that in a english speaking man may have great value in china's domain name market. so english speaking investors should put eyes in china's market.

Hi and thank you for sharing your expertise.

I have a friend who visited China and noticed that some of the internet users are using an interface of some kind. Something that converts non-accented PINYIN lettering into PINYIN words with some kind of drop down menu that lets you choose the right accents since words like "Ma" can mean different things (mother, horse, etc.).

Can you explain this further?

BACKGROUND:
- I know its still early but I registered Chinese PINYIN IDN domains (single words) like Wáng (surname) and Ài.

Dear Guo Yongan First of welcome and Thanks to starting this thread. I hold some pure China focussed names, I do not know how but they are plenty of in my portfolio. I have different Pinyin Names, Numbers, Combination and Extensions so please share your thoughts so we can learn out of it.
1. 23456.Ch
2345.Ch is already a very big and established website in China so I think 23456.Ch could have some value.
2. 168K.org
3. 168K.org
4. C88.Ch
5. BS888.cc
6. FYBBS.Net
7. Luxing.Biz (Travel)
8. Muqin.ws (Mother)
9. Qidong.ws
10. Yuding.ws (Booking)
11. PPP.Net.in
12. GYM.NEt.in
13. GZ88.ws
14. 2121888.Club
15. 6T3.xyz
16. xingyiquan.club (Martial Arts)
17. xxxzy.xyz
18. zqqzz.xyz
19. Bra18.com
20. GL19.com
21. BW95.com
22. MQ73.com
23. MF97.com
24. MQ91.com
25. LM52.com
26. WG37.com

VN99.com
PKR888.com

whenever I think of LLNN.com's I always refer back to finding these 2 websites using similar combos.

Also what about the IDN.IDN market?

.在线 = .Online
.中文网 = .Website
.中国 = .China

When I think about thee extensions above I always reference this interview back in 2014

http://www.domainsherpa.com/simon-cousins-tldregistry-interview/

I've spoken to Chinese domain brokers from one of the domain marketplaces in China. He said that these domains weren't worth anything no matter what was to the LEFT of the dot.

Then of course I end up referencing this article.

http://onlinedomain.com/2014/12/22/...n-name-sales-in-2014-baltic-cruises-eat-club/

The Top 10 list of highest IDN New gTLDs (includes prices that are related to domain packages including the keyword in different variations):
游戏.在线 25,388 US-Dollar games.online
赌场.在线 25,000 US-Dollar casino.online
房地产.在线 16,000 US-Dollar realestate.online
租赁.在线 15,500 US-Dollar rent.online
比特币.在线 14,388 US-Dollar bitcoin.online
房地产.中文网 10,000 US-Dollar realestate.website
俱乐部.在线 7,100 US-Dollar club.online
名表.在线 6,400 US-Dollar look.online
销售.在线 5,588 US-Dollar sell.online
优惠.在线 4,100 US-Dollar offer.online

it's all just confusing. One person says one thing and another says another thing.

have things changed? I recall Kassey Lee mentioned that IDN.IDN is a definite competitor for Chinese numerics.

Still waiting for the 411 Kassey! lol Thanks!

Guo Yongan? your opinion and advice and knowledge would be greatly appreciated to explain all of this.

discuss?

Thanks!

We have 990v.com and were told that "the V kills it"

China is officially the new wild wild west. anything goes pretty much.
so don't let it stress you.

just reference that VN99.com sale of $10,000
The V stands for the Venetian in Macau. a casino.

I said Chinese IDN.IDN vs Pinyin, not vs numerics. Short numerics are fine, and not likely be replaced by IDN.IDN. My blog post today "Chinese IDN Better Than Pinyin?" discusses this issue.

@Kassey Lee @GuoYongan @Avtar629 I appreciate your input on the topic of IDNs. I invested heavily in Chinese IDN.com many years ago and cannot understand why they have not been adopted, will they ever be preferred? What is preventing people from wanting to use them?

I think that one of the problems is technical. It not just a preference or cultural issue.

If you are going to use IDN you have a lot of technical issues going along with them. Many third party websites don't display IDN as they should. So you have your brand being shown as xn--gzeu33 (example) Many social networks can not display them properly. How are you going to promote your brand there if you depend on other websites to make sure your brand is shown as it should be?

You have things like CMS and other software that you going to use on your server for your website. You can't count on these supporting IDN.

I think that alone would cause many programmers/developers to avoid them because it is generally not viewed as reliable and fully functional.

Some have stated that redirects could circumenvent this. I don't know how likely this would be adopted.

Personally I don't see brands building large websites on IDN anytime soon.

As I view it , at the moment they have potential as niche domains but they won't replace ASCII anytime soon. A lot of things would need to happen for that to change. IDN are not new technology. They have been out there for almost 20 years. I don't see why that should change overnight.

It will be verisign's translit of .com in true IDN form. I've heard it translates poorly and will likely not be desired which is why I'm curious of your opinion @GuoYongan

Would 酒店.com or 酒店.点看 be most desirable? In other words even though .点看 translates poorly at least it is .com in true IDN.idn format. Or would the mixed, 酒店.com still be better?

CN is a ccTLD with a large number of registrations, but it is not suitable for collection because it is not open to the public (you need to submit a certificate to the government before you can use it). So I won't buy any CN and IN,imo
.in doesn’t have any restrictions, anyone can register it without any extra formalities.

Hi and thank you for this thread-I assume you speak Chinese and are an experienced domainer? We have been buying pinyin names such as zudeche.com (rental car) caifu.ch ( wealthy) Fangchan.ch ( real estate) We own plenty of .com pinyin names but I wonder what you think of the .ch extension for the China market-or even the .in ( India) extension. Thank you.

in china's market, combination is not a good choice, unless it' s less than four or five character. and the companies use combinations with numbers and alphabet are always small companies.
Thank you for the valuable info. Im glad I didnt go too crazy with it. lol

short characters .lol is also very good :D
I got acquire and recycle because it is a really good keyword. But after reading your messages I now see the importance of learning "pinyin". I might have to stop registering and start learning.

i don't think its a good domain name, in china ,we use pinyin but not english words, so a combination like "caifui+88" is better.
are you saying that "88" is a better choice than 8 or 888?

Caifu88.com is reg'd in China already so you're correct! We have 8spx.com ( "spx" is the worldwide symbol for the S@P 500 )

Are traditional Chinese speakers more likely to know more pinyin than mainland?

Eh, it's dangerous to be Chinese on Namepros - you are going to be swamped by "please apprise xxxx" and "what does xxxx mean" posts and PMs ;)
Of course. It's better to ask questions to someone who speaks chinese than some investor who dont!

Chinese domaining is NOT new, so westerners trying to get the 'jump' on the locals in the Chinese name space is hilarious.

I'm seeing a lot of people hand regging total rubbish and others who are going to get eaten alive on the aftermarket.
