OpenAI is moving with incredible pace, and their recent demo day set a landmark in AI development. There was one topic that I find highly relevant from domainer‘s perspective…
Some commentators see an infliction point similar to the introduction of Apple’s AppStore: anyone will be able to build and sell custom agents for chat gpt. The AppStore created its own market and micro economy, is turning over Billions, and there is no reason why the market for personalised ai assistants should stay behind. Knowledge work will change dramatically, and it’s different niches and contexts will each have their specialised agents. Sam Altman built a custom agent in 4 minutes at the latest demo days, and even very complex ones can be done fast and without coding experience.
It is evident from the last demo day that OpenAi is set to use GPT for its branding. imho, this is terrible for their marketing and great for us domainers, also reflected in the recent uptake in GPT related sales.
It all comes down to the last question- will OpenAi get the exclusive rights for GPT, given that it has been already used as a general descriptive term by the time of their TM filing..? (Try putting the
back in the bottle, no f.ing way)
There is more nuance to it ofc, like the various competitors and their stores etc, but the outlook for gpt domaining still remains imo: the advent of numerous custom agents, all in need of naming & differentiation…
But again these are just my thoughts, and who am I to predict anything of this complexity even slightly correct…
the future is exciting!
