ok so everyone has posted on how a sales letter should or shouldnt go, so now what is the best way to promote your domain names.

Do you :-

A: have a holding page per domain name. i.e http:/www.48hoursdelivery.co.uk

B: have all domain names pointing to one page. i.e http:/www.48hoursdelivery.com

what is the best way here then. this should be interesting to hear how each person runs there domain names.

;)

Can you please tell us how you know the traffic going to the domains which then redirect to the search page?

I don't know how anyone else does it, but I use apache's mod rewrite to redirect any request coming in to :

/index.php?host=thehostname.com

Obviously, thehostname.com is whatever host the user is coming in at. I can then use my favorite log processing software (sawmill) to see the traffic on index.php broken down by the host in the query string.

I take all this a step further and do a lookup in the index.php file on the domain that the user came in on to determine what keywords I should search for them. Then, I redirect to my search page and automatically search for them.

See:

http://www.sesworld.com/

when you hit that URL, you get seemly transferred first to :

http://www.sesworld.com/index.php?host=www.sesworld.com

then to:

http://www.sesworld.com/SearchResults.html?keyword=electronics

But like I said, I can't comment on how others do it ;)

Thanks Matt for your reply but unfortunately I am not a programmer so don't understand it.

I wish I could either find someone to implement it for my or buy an off the shelf program to do it.
