As it looks like XROS is going to be used (nothing certain but looks like it) I would ask
@VRdommy and others.
What will xros usage by apple will do to the XR term.
In every article or yt-video I see today about apples new 'Reality Pro' Headset,
I always read: AR/VR.
I almost never see XR.
And I think this has reasons.
The avg. daily user can make something out of AR / Augmented Reality - he has heard it thousand times.
VR already belongs to daily language usage...
Does he know what XR is?!
AR/VR grew to prominent status, these terms are very famous and everyone is able to decipher them.
In my opinion, they made it almost impossible for XR to catch up
to the same level one day.
XR is a tech term, that might be known in the tech-savvy community, but not really beyond it...
Then, there is also the problem of spelling:
While
AR /
VR are clear,
XR starts with an X, while the real word starts with an E.
You might say that this ain't a big deal; but in my opinion one should not underestimate that:
When I say XR, I do not use an 'E'. So actually, the term would be: Xtended Reality.
The subconscious brain just does not make that automatic connection to Extended Reality...
/ it does not fit perfectly.
Of course there are usecases for XR. - But using ARVR might be a better solution for websites than XR.
Simply because of the prominent status of these initials.
And that you can use both together, is more than clear now with the (commercial) launch of apples headset.
Just my opinion.
