Introducing Nintendo Wii: Did You Get Yours?

TM's aside, Nintendo released the official name for the next generation Nintendo games console: Wii (as in "we").

"Introducing... Wii.
As in "we."

While the code-name Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that seperates videogame players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of videogames that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything."

I didn't get into the Wii thing in time, but a question for those of you that did:

Where did you find out when you first heard the news of the Wii? Were you on a news site like CNN or Yahoo News or something, how exactly did you hear about it so quickly that you were able to beat others to registering the best names? Where did you hear it from?

Thanks,
Andy

Obviously this is alot better than Blook, you have a confirmation of a console name. As far as I'm concerned, only a single rather minor site coined the term "blook".

Many Wii sales.

The first result in the default "we can't find your page" that earthlink sends me to for yahoo:
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/punkd/did-nintendo-punk-us-with-wii-170381.php

I know it's been discussed, so I won't take it there. Instead, I can't help but think that it might be real since wii.com has been taken down (Used to be the paper manufacturer weyngternenrnerhauserbergensteinbaum (sp?) apparently) and now resolves to nothing, and you know there has to be millions of uniques they are letting slip through their (Whoever "they" are) fingers...

I've gotten a few emails, etc that have convinced me to hold on to my Wii domains until E3 at least (unless someone pays my recently raised prices on SEDO ;) ). I want to see how this plays out first.. I paid NP$ for my Wii domains so far so I'm not "out" anything if you get my drift. I can afford to feed and water 'em a few days.

Late entry wii

Missed the frenzy but started thinking on the weekend. What happens when these things actually start shipping? Started thinking about common phrases that consumers might use.

So I got (designed for type in)
wiiforsale.com
wiionsale.com
wiiretailers.com
wiitournament.com

One more for the developers
wiihelp.info

Not sure what will happen at E3 so they are listed on Sedo now.

Thanks.

Thanks for the left-over, I think that one's going to be good. :)

It's SO much easier reading the wii names with the dashes!

The Nintendo Wii trademark consipiracy ends. 9 "Wii" trademarks have been revealed to the public today. Article: http://www.codenamerevolution.com/?p=374

Also, revolution.nintendo.com now redirects to wii.nintendo.com. :)

So now all you Wii buyers out there that were sceptical about name changes/tm theories, can now safely buy a "Wii" domain. :) (Mine preferrably :hehe: )

I don't know about the use of Nintendo Items in the USA or other places, but it from, the general consensus where I live (UK... but specifically the area where I live)... that Nintendo products are always for those old gamers who want to play Sonic The Hedgehog and Mario and are never anything special.

I dont know anyone who has bought something of Nintendo lately.

This is from my personal experiences, your experiences may be totally the opposite. I respect that, so please don't take what I'm saying to heart.

I found out through the press release that was sent out to everyone on the Nintendo UK PR team's mailing list - so by the time other sites had processed that press release and got the news onto their website for others to see, i'd already racked up my domains

What do you think of the name? Makes me smile.

I think if you were planning on developing it then it may be worth getting, however if you're buying with a plan to resell I don't see it doing well.

I must admit that I was swayed from my love of nintendo by the psx - still, i continued to buy Nintendo consoles, they just gathered more dust than others.

Then again, there are certain games for the Nintendo that are just fantastic... gotta love stuff like Super Monkey Ball and Mario Kart - plus more mature games like the rereleases of the Resident Evil series

Of the three main consoles, Nintendo is definately at the back of the pack - but they still have a huge audience

I think they will do well.. for one, they promise backward compatibility.. (hopefully via hardware). I love Mario Kart.. that game alone is worth buying the Nintendo systems for IMO. :D

Well it's supposed to be pronounced "wee," but am I the only one that can't help but pronounce it "why"?

Not sure about the name, but there's plenty of money there.

I passed on this initially, but just for the hell of it I searched for a few last night and grabbed 2 decent .com domains, have a few more decent ones written down that are available, not sure if I will grab those or not, but still some decent ones left for those that passed initially like myself.

Still many good ones available in the lesser known ccTLD's as well.. if you're looking for keyword domains, ccTLD can be the way to go.

I see more Google results for adapter, but also see it spelled adaptor.. might want to hedge yer bets.

Jay said:
forgot to mention the 2 I grabbed, nothing brilliant, but not bad I imagine as all games have some sort of adapters, second one is kinda long but whatever, gotta love the namedrive pages.

thanks for the tip dave, I thought of that as well while doing my research, adapter seemed to be searched okay, I'll leave the 2 you mentioned open to anyone else and may throw the others I have written down in this thread if I decide not to buy them. Thanks :)

*edit* funny thing I just checked the list of domains I made at about 2 a.m. that were available and only 1 remained, so people are definitely moving on this, no big deal I grabbed the 1 remaining 1 I had from the list and will cap my collection on this at 3 domains.

let's just say I hope the damn thing breaks :)
