There are no 4L.com available for registration. If any 4L.com owner dies of for any other reason does not renew the 4L.com domain still those domains sold in expired domains auctions before they get dropped. If a 4L.com domain is registered with a registrar who doesn't list for auction their expired domain then such domain will be picked up by drop catchers. You will never get a 4l.com available for registration.

As other have pointed out, all 4L (four-letter) .com domain names are all registered. This was confirmed in a research more than a decade ago (shameless plug, this research was done with an API developed by my company). Having said that, I'll try to provide some additional value, and not just advertise here.

Four-letter .com domains names shouldn't be confused with .com domain names that also contain numbers, and they also shouldn't be confused with other TLDs (top level domains). For example, there are still four-letter .NET domain names available for registration. We also did a research on that, you can find the link in the post I linked above. So, it is safe to assume that there are available four-letter domain names in other extensions.

Your best bet to find four-letter .com domain names is either in domain auctions (as newbie191 pointed out), or go to domain investors directly.

There's a big discussion how much these domains would cost. You can either check past sales on Namebio or take an educated guess. Range is huge because obviously a short word that forms a domain name like cars .com or cash .com could be worth millions. Chinese seem to pay a premium price on some particular letters, and pronounceable domains always cost more. At the bottom lie jibberish domain names like ufnm .com, pvkn .com. I suppose these cost around $200.

What you can see now in the market are those that the owners have listed for sale and/or for auction. Although for a higher price than the original ~$8. rmqe.com, izmq.com, ijxo.com for example are priced averagely at $199. However, there are some pricey names that are also listed like cksa.com, bpve.com, and vamm.com that are at average of $49,999,999.

It's important to differentiate price from value. There are some absolutely terrible domains priced in the millions, because the owners don't know better.
