question Query on backlinks checking

Hi all again, I was just wondering are there any tools for checking backlinks that are as good as ahrefs for checking backlinks? If there are none as good, then is there a prize for second place that doesn't require me to remortgage the house every month just to try and find sites with valid backlinks ie not chinese spammed to death sites to sell on? (I'm dabbling in very cheap domains so I am only looking to try get top tier possibilities and seemingly the DR/backlink quality are the quintessential components of getting a decent site with a decent chance of selling if my research is correct?)
