It looks like Uber acquired the domain Uber.cz. The domain is now registered at Mark Monitor. Almost two years to date that the service became available in Prague, the first city in central and eastern Europe where the Uber car hire service is available.

The domain was owned by Internet CZ since 2008.

Be interested in what they paid ☺ my guess, mid to high 5 figures unless through a blind / proxy broker...

isn't uber trademarked? why do they have to pay end user money to get the domain?

According to the the article, uber.cz was regged in 2008 well before Uber (the transportation platform) was launched or trademarked for its service...

Negotiations may have taken a while in fact Uber is no stranger to negotiations given their controversy and disruptive model over traditional taxi or transportation services as a whole.

Pretty much the same story for all the other sharing economy startups (AirBNB, etc)

We own one .cz but its a term that gets 5million hits a month so maybe-just maybe this is good news-time will tell.
