I am hoping to breathe new life into .net. I am selling a business model for buyers groups to buy at wholesale prices. I am calling this form of shopping #Netting due to the #OneToMany relationship in buying in bulk in wholesaling. I am doing this based on the fishing analogy:

I believe that my business model is disruptive enough to warrant a new domain extension. What I am starting is what I call:

I am pitching the idea that we reserve .net domains for buyers groups. As most businesses are liners, the buyers groups are the netters. I think that buying at wholesale prices is very attractive to many people. Learning the skills to save thousands of dollars every year is very attractive to those who don't have a lot of money. My discussion with people is that many of the upper middle class don't like my business model because lining is more convenient to those who are prepared to pay a bit more. However there are millions of people around the world who want to save money with wholesale prices and are willing to learn new skills to save money.

Hence, I am starting a #ClassDanceBattle. I have started the #NetVSComDebate this week. I am expecting this discussion to be a lot of fun. I am not investing in .net domains or .com domains. I am a consultant, not a trader. I believe that I have a strong case that #OneToManyShopping is necessary to attract the wholesale prices that are attractive to millions of people across the world.

.net may be a dinosaur and I am presenting the case that it may be a dinosaur that is being overlooked.

I don't think you, @GoKaizen; at least, I see it differently. Sure, .COM Domains are the most used ones, following Statista Premium (Germany's biggest Statistic Platform), but at the same time, other Domains are rising while they are going down. We had a Thread on NamePros. Let's decide which top-level domain (TLD) you prefer for your new tech brand. At least 3/4 of the people said .com, which is quite apparent. You trust them, you know them, they are well-established.

I have shifted my attention to .pink instead of .net to build my business model around. It is easier to build around a less established domain extension particularly as women do around 70+% of the shopping. I am still calling .net as a potential domain extension for my business model and I am calling my business model netting as a nickname. I have bought a couple of .net domains in the last week including VURG.net.

NET is less popular because optimally it either means "network" or "relating to networking", but it is also used as a catch-all when nothing else is available, as with XYZ. A difference being that XYZ is a retarded fad with a promotion team behind it, and is rarely ever used in the only way the extension actually means anything (as a weak competitor to .INFO). You'd be hard-pressed to find any name with 5+ TLDs for which one of them is not a .NET.

.pink is horrible, as is most new TLD's... (IMO relax) I still feel like the whole .xyz thing was a huge scam, it's one of the ugliest extensions ever. Lets say I got a new TLD and I told someone "hey check out my website at website.tech"... ill bet 85% of people will go to websitetech.com instead... .net is classic like .com and .org... to me they are the only 3 I will spend money on, same with any business I have seen around me... Another example: When the owner of "TimsCoffeeShop.com" is asking "$850,000"... what's tim going to do? He's going to get the .net, unless tim studys domains all day, he has no idea about timscoffee.shop, nor will he buy it, because he is used to .com, .net, and .org... Maybe another few generations and they will take off more, but i'm only in my 30's so its going to take a bit... just my take...

There are hundres of new TLDs which might TLD fatigue. I've heard people trying to recall the correct TLD - was it .xyz, .app, .inc, .club, .info, or .tech? If words are found that include the TLD then those might become popular because the TLD is built into the name. Someone(s) has thought of it because I've gone through every likely keyword ending in "com", "org", "us", etc. and they've all been registered. I'm working on good words ending in "net" now.

COM costs less than NET, and a TLD getting a lot of use means that people actually want it, which is what actually drives value. I guarantee nobody else had to think about whether to buy .PINK. You should get out of this business and either focus on your family or focus on having a family, whichever applies to you.

You dont replace “.com” with “.net”

Use “.net” as #2 placeholder until maybe 1 day, afford its .com —This is my advice. Good luck!!

I'm of the opinion that the reverse is true. Every notable business uses the .com, which has set a precedent. In fact, a lot of people don't even realize that something.net i a domain.

The way I see it is that you have .com and .com-alternatives. If someone is "okay" with a .net they'd also be "okay" with a .blue or .online. Because the prestige of a .com doesn't really matter to them that much. Which limits the demand and aftermarket.
