Moniker Escrow or Escrow.com

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Due to so many paypal chargebacks nowadays aiming towards LLLL.coms sellers in majority.. i figure i shud use escrow service instead to protect my domains. However all this while i have been dealing wif paypal ( luckily so far nothing bad has happen) so i dunno how is the escrow process..

I heard moniker escrow is better than escrow.com but i have few questions.i tried calling escrow.com but i cant get hold of any customer representative but the machine only.as for moniker escrow there is only a toll free number to call and i am from malaysia.

Hope u can help out wif few of my questions
1) Is moniker escrow better or escrow.com better?or any better escrow service?
2) How long does it takes for a transaction to complete?
3) How do they pay me? wire transfer? paypal? any charges?
4) If the buyer pays moniker wif paypal n later do a chargeback on escrow but i have oredi transferred the domain , can i get the domain back?
5) are there any risk?

Your help is very much appreciated~ :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I recently used escrow.com for a domain sale. I have used them a few times, and they are very reliable, although the transaction can be kind of slow, depending on the promptness of the buyer and seller to follow through.
My transactions there have taken anywhere from 1-3 weeks.
I don't believe escrow.com pays via paypal. They will pay by wire. I am usually paid by check. There are escrow fees, which can be paid as agreed by the buyer or seller.
I'm not sure what happens if the buyer does a chargeback via paypal. But, once escrow pays you, you are no longer responsible.

As with anything when there are 3 parties involved, time depends on the Buyer/Seller/Escrow co. So plan a 5 day process. If it's done before that, then it's a plus!

I like using Sedo (most of the time)! But it can be a pain getting your buyer to send the offer to sedo. I have never "Just" used there escrow and I am not sure if they even offer that, but I think so. If You have the domain parked with them, the fees are pretty low. They pay you in nearly anyway you would like from my understanding. Paypal, check, wire etc.

Escrow.com is the next that I use. The lowest fee is $25. Escrow.com does not offer the option to pay you via paypal, so getting your money can take a bit longer.... So it's either wire, direct deposit or paper check.

Moniker Escrow. Min fee of $75. Ouch! Pretty slow, not automated as they say so... You have to Fax in an agreement as well, so keep that in mind. Also plan on calling the ONE person that deals with the escrow process. This might of changed since Oversee took over, but probally not!

I would use and in this order. Sedo.com, Escrow.com and then Moniker. Afternic also offers an escrow, but I have never used them.

I've used Afternic escrow a couple of times. They are pretty good, with no complaints. And, I believe they pay by paypal.

I've used Escrow.com about 15 times in the past 12 months and I think they're great, as I've never had an issue. I have not had to wait longer than 10 days from the purchaser's initial request to the direct deposit into my bank account. Of course, I've also been lucky enough to have buyers that were eager enough to pay very rapidly.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Kimmy

Malaysia - you might want to check this old thread regarding Payment Methods For Domains

Yofie - check post #19 in above thread ... SEDO does have independant escrow service and it is at 3% instead of 10% ... but the domain must not be for sale on SEDO ... check the post mentioned above for more details though , because there is a $50 minimum (though there might be a way to legally avoid it , see the post for more)

Hello everyone,

A couple folks mentioned Afternic's escrow process. Wanted to provide you all more information with regards to Afternic escrow. Hope this helps!

http://www.afternic.com/buy.php?p=4

Afternic's DNescrow™ service guarantees the transaction for both parties. The buyer will receive the domain and the seller will receive the payment. If the transaction does not complete for any reason, the buyer will receive a full refund and the seller will keep the domain.

We back this guarantee in several ways. First, we have documented our guarantee in our Membership Agreement. Second, we follow a rigorous escrow process. Every escrow payment is deposited into a special account, for example. Third, we maintain membership in the Better Business Bureau and the BBB Online Reliability Program (click the seal on our home page) to substantiate our commitment to customer satisfaction.

There are eight steps in our escrow process:

Seller selects the disbursement method and confirms the sale agreement.
Buyer selects the payment method, confirms the purchase agreement, and sends the payment to Afternic.
Buyer submits the new registration information for the domain. (This information is hidden from the seller until the payment is approved.)
The exchange receives the payment.
The exchange approves the payment and authorizes the domain name transfer. This step is completed immediately after step 3 for guaranteed payments (money orders, cashier checks, and wire transfers). Otherwise, it is completed after the payment clears.
Seller transfers the ownership of the domain to the buyer at the current registrar. The seller pays any registrant transfer fees directly to the registrar.
Buyer changes the password on the account at the registrar and confirms to the exchange that the transfer is complete.
The exchange sends the net proceeds to the seller.
We currently offer the following methods for buyers to pay for a domain name: Any kind of check (business, personal, US, non-US), money order, or wire transfer (US or non-US).

Wire transfers, cashier checks, and money orders do not require a holding period; the seller will be authorized to transfer the domain as soon as we receive the payment. On the other hand, Checks and eChecks must clear before we authorize the transfer.

Although we do accept credit cards for membership fees and other services, we cannot accept credit cards for domain name purchases. (Credit card payments can be reversed by the payer long after the exchange has disbursed funds to the seller. Because our service guarantees payments to sellers, we cannot accept payments by credit card.)

Does Afternic....

1) Accept PayPal payments
2) Disperse via PayPal
3) Is there a minimum
4) Is there a higher fee if the domain is listed for sale

I am really happy with Escrow. They are better in their service compared to others. They assited me in facilitating a 3 party transaction without any hassles.

it was a slow one as it took almost one month to be done but i had no problems; i dont know if just sedo was slow or both buyer and sedo as i did all the procedures sedo asked me to ASAP

Sedo escrow is the best with my personal experiences.

I had 30+ transactions through escrow.com last year, and they handle them professionally. They pay a couple of day's after the buyer 'accept' the name. Their fee is reasonable.

I sold names through afternic and sedo. They charge 10%, which is much more than escrow.com. Never used their escrow service though. Sedo pays pretty fast; while I use ACH at afternic, it could take more than a week even after afternic report the name is sold.

Another alternative is to have the buyer submit a certified offer through network solutions. The process is a bit slow, as the name has to be transferred to netsol. But the buyer pays all the fee there.

Thanks for the question.

Yes, we accept and disperse via PayPal.

For the escrow-only service, the fee is either 3% of transaction value or $60, whichever is higher.

If the name is listed for sale on Afternic, it would be dependent on the listing type. For basic promotion, which means that the name is listed on Afternic, there is a 10% fee. For expanded promotion, which means that the name is listed on our DLS network and is promoted via our sales team (~18 folks), the sales fee is 20%. Included in both basic and expanded promo are the escrow fees.

If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

All the best,

David

Would you be able to process a 3 party transaction ? I mean seller, buyer & broker involved in a transaction.

I've been using escrow.com and so far they've been great.

I haven't really use any other escrow services except escrow.com

I just completed an end user sale recently and received the payment within 10 days.

I was ALWAYS able to call Escrow.com and to speak about my transaction. Also from abroad. You just have to call them during business hours.

Sedo and Moniker lalso worked for me well when I used them. I would use any of them again.
