Mortgage.mobi is a stronger name than Mortgages.mobi. Maybe .mobi prices aren't down 70%, but they're definitely down 50%+...

Also, I don't think anyone ever took mtld seriously with the whole RFP and development thingy -- at least me and Jeff sure as heck never did. :|

70-80%??

Check your glasses and your calculator. How about some real sales numbers and domains for you to chew on:

Mortgages.mobi - $10,500 (2006) No dev requirements
Mortgages.mobi - $25,000 (2007 TRAFFIC) No dev requirements
Mortgage.mobi - $18,000 (2008) Dev Requirements

These numbers show about a 30% decline using this real world example and I suspect it would be less of a decline if there were no dev requirements and a better economy. Maybe even an increase if housing market was not in the toilet, especially for mortgage.mobi.

Can you show me your 70-80% decline comparing very similar domains like these?

forsale--- 5k
drugs---- 17.5k

Can you imagine men.mobi getting 100k+ at the time flowers.mobi got 200k or mortgage.mobi getting 180k+? I can't. These are very strong .mobi's but not the "absolute pinnacle" type of names that has come up for auction before. I think most of those 10-18k names would have been 40-80k names at the peak.
Why is every sale compared to flowers? You can imagine what sale prices might have been all day long. Doesn't amount to squat. How about some real numbers to chew on.

Florida 2006 T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Conference live auction:
-
Flowers.mobi $200,000
Fun.mobi $100,000
Hot.mobi $40,000
StockQuotes.mobi $27,000
Cams.mobi $23,600
Party.mobi $13,000
Wow.mobi $9,000
Gossip.mobi $5,000
Laugh.mobi $3,000
Celebs.mobi $2,250

2007 T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Conferences:
-
RealEstate.mobi $85,000
Casinos.mobi $52,000
Singles.mobi $41,000
Mortgages.mobi $25,000
Pics.mobi $23,000
Pizza.mobi $21,000
Directions.mobi $19,000
MusicVideos.mobi $16,500
Europe.mobi $11,500
AirFare.mobi $11,000
Cam.mobi $10,500
Models.mobi $7,500
Eat.mobi $6,700
CreditScore.mobi $6,500
AreaCodes.mobi $5,890
Laptops.mobi $4,750
SouthAmerica.mobi $3,100
Beat.mobi $3,000
Tags.mobi $1,180
LoanCalculator.mobi $1,500

These are the historic prices from the same venue. Combining 2006 and 2007, the median price for .mobi is $10,250. This latest auction has a median price of $9,500. Yet another moderate decline. You have to be looking at the extremes in order to find your 70-80% declines.

not sure about the percentage.. but price drops have happened, as expected.

but take it from me, somebody that bought lotsa .mobi during landrush and has been selling on the aftermarket constantly... it is the difference of 'insanely great prices', and 'amazing prices', given that it is a relatively new extension and usually whoops .info's ass or ties with it.

like i always say, unless these things drop below $60 (landrush registration price) then the price drops are very easy to deal with for those that jumped first, when the criticism was highest.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge in the last few months.

http://domainnamewire.com/2007/12/05/musicmobi-sells-for-record-616000/

dotMobi fans are cheering today after Sedo concluded its most successful .mobi auction to date. According to an unofficial tally from Domain Name Wire, the auction cleared $1.5M in sales.

The highest sale was Music.mobi, which sold for an astonishing $616,000. Games.mobi sold for $401,500. Compare this to the record sale prior to this event, Flowers.mobi for $200,000.

With prices this high, major investors clearly took part in the auction. Both “music” and “games” are prevelant on mobile phones, so it’s no surprise that these domains sold for a premium. But these prices were unexpected by even many of the biggest .mobi promoters. Earlier this week I predicted that Games.mobi might break the Flowers.mobi record, but these numbers are simply astonishing.

Other notable sales include:

sports.mobi $101,000
movies.mobi $82,000
juegos.mobi $61,000
game.mobi $61,000
videos.mobi $51,000
photos.mobi $51,000
fashion.mobi $32,000
video.mobi $25,555
dictionary.mobi $21,500
musica.mobi $20,600
movie.mobi $20,500

Lists above.

Name one premium / generic "dot Mobey" domain name that has been a verified, completed sale - ie., not still having mTLD in the Whois contact details - from Traffic (or Sedo, for that matter) to an corporate / End user that now has an unique and compelling fully developed website for exclusive use by those that are "on the go" ... and is now being promoted to the masses? :red: :snaphappy:

Righto, mTLD abandoned - as predicted - the RFP process for :$: GREED MONEY ... and if the mandated 6-month development requirements are not even going to be enforced, then it's further evidence that mTLD is purely in this thing for immediate PROFITS! :tri: :imho:

For those that demand answers and balance to the whole mTLD / "dot Mobey" situation (fiasco) - including their incestuous participation in the Traffic shows - it is becoming increasingly more and more difficult and problematic for those who are proponents of the extension to actually defend what has transpired to date, in my view. :guilty:

Here is some popularity figures for mortgage versus mortages,

From wordtracker,

2128 mortgage
914 mortgages

From Google

mortgage 223,000,000
mortgages 85,800,000

From Overture

mortgage.com 8500
mortgages.com 205

I think the singular is probably 2-3 times more valuable than the plural.

Silly demands Jeff. But I use this .mobi site every day:

Weather.mobi - mTLD Premium generic name - Now owned by The Weather Channel - Fully developed and promoted on weather.com (US Alexa rank #23)

http://www.weather.com/mobile/dotmobi.html

"weather.mobi brings you the weather information you need in a quick, easy-to-view design that's perfect for all mobile phone users."

I'm sure there will be more, at least from those companies who see value in generic names to begin with, most are more interested in promoting their brands instead of generics. AAA.mobi, ESPN.mobi, BofA.mobi, BMW.mobi, Hertz.mobi, Smirnoff.mobi, FoxNews.mobi, Nokia.mobi etc. are perfect examples.

Most here are aware - IMHO - of the incest that has occurred with the unusual "extended double trial" of (former / abandoned RFP) Weather.mobi ... what was the exact nature and specific financial arrangement for this propoganda/hype link, Paul? :|

PS. Here is the real Weather.com™ Mobile link (linked directly from their home page as; weather.com on your mobile phone: http://www.weather.com/mobile/

Go to weather.com on your phone.
It's fast! It's free! All you need is a mobile phone with Wireless Internet capability to access severe weather warnings, forecasts and radar maps for your city, and thousands of cities worldwide. It's weather anytime, anywhere from the leader in Wireless Weather®

Access The Weather- Channel application FREE from your iPhone. Go to weather.com/iphone from your iPhone browser. Get maps, severe weather, hourly forcasts and more.

Jeff, deny it all you want but the link I provided in my post, http://www.weather.com/mobile/dotmobi.html is found on weather.com. It CLEARLY advertises and promotes weather.mobi.

Jeff, how many premium / GENERIC .com domain names have a verified, completed sale since Sept '06 from Traffic (or Sedo) to a corporate end user that now has an unique and compelling fully developed website? If .com is King, let's look at that first.

No Jeff, it's called applying the same standard across the board. You set up unrealistic and false expectations of the .mobi extension and then declare it is a failure when your silly bar is not met. All the while no extension can meet your demands but somehow it only applies to .mobi. I ask your own question back to you and you accuse me of evasion and deception. Ridiculous.

.mobi auction prices are down, no one is arguing the opposite. I also read .com prices are down. Is anyone arguing the opposite? Is this the death of .com also? No, nor is it the death of .mobi. Face it, .mobi is here to stay whether you like it or not. Same for .net, .org, .info, etc. If .mobi is not your thing, don't buy it. But refrain from slandering .mobi enthusiasts, accusing them of subterfuge when all they do is spend their own money on domains of their liking.

You really must clean those turd colored glasses, go to their homepage, weather.com, scroll down to the bottom and there is a whole section for mobile. The first link reads, "Free Mobile Web", click it. Scroll down and there in bright orange is a .mobi logo, next to it you can read for yourself, "And, now you can access our weather content on weather.mobi. Click here for more information." Go ahead, click on it, and there is this really nice page with further info all about weather.mobi. I know it pains you to see it, but I use it every day, along with an ever increasing number of users. The Weather Channel Interactive Inc doesn't care about the .mobi auction results in the domainer community, they got their killer .mobi domain, as well as their earlier one, TWC.mobi, which also works BTW.

Prices rise and fall. Whatever, thats the nature of things. I like low prices so my purchasing $ will go further. If you want to wait until the prices are much higher to buy domains, that is your prerogative.

Sure, bright orange .mobi logos are obscure. Do you hear yourself? So what if it wasn't sold at an auction, who cares? It's a developed AND promoted site on a Premium Generic domain name owned by a major corporation, exactly what you claim is needed for the extension to thrive but you ignore the facts when presented to you.

scandiman said:
Jeff, your question is meaningless so I don't answer it.

The FACT that there have been ZERO verified "dot Mobey" premium / generic domains "sold" at (thread topic -->) Traffic (or Sedo) to any corporate / End user(s) that are now promoting unique and compelling fully developed websites for exclusive use by those that are "on the go" ... is, or should be, EXTREMELY MEANINGFUL for all those seeking the truth about mTLD and its highly problematic extension, IMHO. :gl: :yell:

So what if it wasn't sold at an auction, who cares?

It wasn't RFP'd and it certainly wasn't auctioned at Traffic ... but you countered (not answered) my specific question above regarding the generic "dot Mobeys" sold at Traffic with "weather.mobi" (your post #115 here) and that is FACTUALLY INCORRECT! :guilty: :snaphappy:
